  1. Goodbye and thank you for joiningpublished at 14:47 BST 20 September

That's all from us. Thank you for following our live coverage of DUP leader Gavin Robinson's speech.

  2. Key points from today's speechpublished at 14:26 BST 20 September

    • Robinson acknowledged that trust in the DUP was damaged over the handling of the Windsor Framework
    • The DUP leader criticised the Irish Republic as a place where people are "vilified" for their religion
    • He also described Irish government leaders as "pen pals" with Hamas
    • Robinson was also critical of the UK government handing "greater influence" to the Irish government over legacy cases in Northern Ireland
    • He also criticised current immigration policy and what he called "the radical ideology" of transgenderism

  3. Political unionism at 'the crossroads'published at 14:22 BST 20 September

Robinson finishes his speech by reasserting what he believes is the importance of devolution, and advocates "shaping our own future here in Northern Ireland, with local ministers accountable to local people".

"Will we resign ourselves to de facto Dublin rule from London, with decisions made by those who do not walk in our shoes?

"Do we build a society rooted in common sense, in fairness, and in opportunity?

"Or do we allow our future to be dictated by the radical, woke ideology of those who sneer at our values, dismiss our traditions, and who undermine the very foundations of our Union?

    "That is the crossroads."

Robinson adds: "I believe in a Union that is stronger, not weaker, because unionism had the courage to stand firm, the vision to look ahead, and the ability to deliver for the people it serves."

  4. DUP stands for policies 'rooted in reality, not radical ideology' - Robinsonpublished at 14:19 BST 20 September

Robinson says the DUP stands for "policies rooted in reality and not radical ideology".

"Across the United Kingdom we have seen attempts to erase the very basics of biology," he says.

Robinson adds: "Biologically, a boy is a boy and a girl is a girl.

"That is not prejudice, nor is it intolerance. It's the truth."

  5. Warning over NI becoming 'magnet' for illegal migrationpublished at 14:13 BST 20 September

Robinson says the DUP support a "fair and controlled" migration that meets economic needs, but doesn't "overwhelm our frontline services or working-class communities".

In a reference to the current debate about the European Convention of Human Rights and its role in immigration policy, Robinson says:

"Use of the European Convention on Human Rights to derail the deportation of rejected asylum seekers, or those with criminal or dangerous pasts, must be addressed - but in a way that maintains the unity of this country.

"Proposals shouldn’t be pursued if they would separate Northern Ireland at the behest of the EU, actually making this region a magnet for illegal migration."

  6. Applause for 'plain-speaking on immigration'published at 14:06 BST 20 September

"In communities across Northern Ireland, we are hearing the same message again and again: people are concerned about the impact of illegal and uncontrolled immigration on housing, on schools, on jobs, and on the cohesion of many of our own neighbourhoods," says Robinson, who tells his party he wants to speak plainly about immigration.

To applause from the conference he says: "That's not racism, that's not prejudice, its not intolerance.

"That is the lived experience of the people we represent."

  7. Robinson: Irish government has 'failed to investigate its sinister role' in the Troublespublished at 13:58 BST 20 September

Robinson also criticises the Irish government for its "failure to investigate its sinister role" in the Troubles - and adds that the UK government "wants to placate" the Irish government regarding legacy cases in Northern Ireland.

He says the Irish government's decision to take the UK government to court would be "laughable if it wasn't so serious".

Robinson adds: "The DUP will always defend the honourable service and sacrifice of members of our security forces."

  8. Irish government 'pen pals' with Hamas - Robinsonpublished at 13:55 BST 20 September

Robinson criticises Simon Harris "and others" for their "moral pronouncements" on "Israel's just war in Gaza".

"This is a state that was a proxy for Irish republican terrorism for decades," he says.

"Is it any great shock that they want to be pen pals with Hamas?"

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

At least 65,141 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the territory's health ministry.

  9. Irish Republic a country where people 'vilified' for religionpublished at 13:46 BST 20 September

In a reference to the former TD Heather Humphreys, a border Protestant with family ties to the Orange Order, running for Irish President, Robinson says: 'Nor will we let Dublin off the hook for their institutional intolerance of Protestant culture and heritage.

'The Irish Republic is a country where candidates for their highest office in that country are vilified because of their religion and their family’s connection to the Orange institution.'

  10. Robinson 'confident' there will be no border poll by 2030published at 13:42 BST 20 September

Robinson says he is "confident" that there will be not be a border poll by 2030.

"Michelle O'Neill's prediction of a border poll by 2030 will melt away faster than her credibility as a self-proclaimed 'First Minister for all'," he says.

  11. 'When unionism is divided, our opponents prosper' - Robinsonpublished at 13:41 BST 20 September

Robinson says unionist parties "must reflect the desire of Pro-Union people to see us working together".

He says unionist voters want to "maximise the number of seats in both the Assembly and in the Councils across Northern Ireland".

"When unionism is divided, our opponents prosper.

"No party, and no personality, should ever trump our shred strategic aims."

  12. 'Message for critics'published at 13:39 BST 20 September

'Did we achieve all that we set out to do? The answer to that has to be no", Robinson tells the conference.

In a remark many will see directed at the TUV party, led by Jim Allister who says the Stormont power-sharing Executive shouldn't have been restored last year, Robinson says: 'We have more to do. Ironically however the strategy of our most harshest critics is to simply hand back power to all of those those who delivered the Protocol and the Irish Sea border. That will not work'.

Robinson adds: 'We will continue to challenge the Government on their broken pledges in this Parliament for the removal of EU law from our own country.

'What may seem impossible today, in time with hard work and with a constant spotlight on the unsustainable nature of the Protocol....we will succeed.'

  13. Trust in DUP 'impacted'published at 13:33 BST 20 September

Robinson goes onto to criticise the Conservative and Labour governments over the Windsor Framework, which manages post-Brexit trade rules.

However, he also acknowledges the short-comings of the DUP during this time.

'I regret some of our commentary then did not spell out plainly the difference between what had been resolved, what could be achieved through faithful government implementation, and the fundamental challenges that remained.

'Our choice was not between perfection or betrayal, it was between progress or paralysis.

We chose to return to Stormont to deliver for our people. To keep unionism strong where it matters most – in a position of leadership where we can effect change.'

  14. 'At the heart of politics lies trust'published at 13:31 BST 20 September

Robinson: 'Trust was broken when the Irish Sea border was imposed in the face of unanimous unionist opposition.

'Our party said it was wrong. We said it was undemocratic. We said it weakened the Union.'

  16. Robinson set to deliver speech at second conference as leaderpublished at 13:16 BST 20 September

Robinson is expected to tell his annual conference "when unionism is divided, our opponents prosper".

The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader will acknowledge the Northern Ireland Assembly is "far from perfect", but dismiss suggestions that people would be "better off with Starmer than with Stormont".

The conference, which started on Saturday morning, is his second both as DUP leader and since devolution was restored in 2024, following a two-year hiatus.
