  1. Trump 'right' to call Putin but Zelensky must be part of peace talks - Labourpublished at 10:07 Greenwich Mean Time

The latest episode of Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg has just wrapped up so let's recap some of the key talking points during the last hour.

    • Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said peace talks on Ukraine must "involve both Russia and Ukraine and we want to support that process”
    • Asked if it was wrong for US President Donald Trump to speak to Russian leader Vladimir Putin - without consulting European allies - about Ukraine, Phillipson said it was the "right approach" but "any lasting settlement" needs to include Kyiv
    • On Sir Keir Starmer's visit to the White House next week, Phillipson said the prime minister will discuss with Trump “how we as a nation, alongside European allies, play a bigger role in defence and security on the continent”
    • Shadow defence secretary James Cartlidge also said that Trump was right to call Putin about Ukraine, adding that Russia has "to be involved in the negotiations"
    • Cartlidge said the UK has to go further on its defence spending, but he wouldn't "pluck a GDP figure out of the sky"
