The train company which runs services from King's Lynn in Norfolk to London is spraying carriages with a virus killer that makers claim gives surfaces protection against coronavirus for up to 30 days.

Govia Thameslink, external staff are spraying rolling stock and stations with a viruscide that sticks to surfaces.

Engineering director Steve Lammin said: "Since the outbreak of this pandemic we have been doing all we can to protect our passengers and staff by ensuring our trains, and stations have enhanced cleaning regimes, and a switch in focus to high-touch areas and the increased use of anti-viral agents.

"We are now using a product that will kill coronavirus for up to 30 days and we are applying this to surfaces across our network on a 21-day cycle.

"We want to do everything possible to work with passengers and staff to keep them safe and this will further protect everyone who is working so hard for this country."

Central Bedfordshire Council, external is asking people to watch out for signs of "cuckooing" in the community, saying that drug dealers and other organised crime gangs are moving off the streets during lockdown and into vulnerable people’s homes.

The Safer Central Community Safety Partnership , external- which comprises the authority, emergency services and other agencies - is raising awareness of the increasing criminal activity in a social media campaign which shows residents how to spot the signs.

These could include an increase in people entering the property, anti-social behaviour, litter outside and people coming and going at strange times.

It says victims may be unable or afraid to speak out, so if you suspect someone you know is being exploited, you can email the team , externalor report it via the Bedfordshire Police website, external.

Peterborough's New Theatre, external is set to stay shut until mid-November because business is not viable while social distancing rules are in place.

Selladoor, which runs the venue on Broadway, said the plan was to reopen in time for pantomime season.

Director Richie Ross said spacing out seats would significantly reduce the 1,000 capacity.

"The figures just don't add up at 218 seats: we can't bring in the shows we want to bring in, nobody makes any money out of it, basically," he said.

Central Bedfordshire Council, external has sought to clarify traffic arrangements outside schools for when they return next week.

A notice put up in the village of Harlington, near Flitwick, suggests there will be road closures near school entrances for up to 18 months.

The authority says there are concerns about maintaining social distancing with increased traffic around schools but the statutory notices are purely a precautionary measure and it has no plans for closures or other changes at present.

The authority is also encouraging parents, whose children are eligible for home to school transport assistance, to drive their children to school by offering refunds for the mileage driven, external.

Luton-based EasyJet is to cut 30% of its workforce as it struggles to cope with the collapse in demand for air travel caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The airline did not say exactly how many jobs would go, but it employed 15,000 people at the start of 2020.

EasyJet, which has big operations at Gatwick and Luton airports, confirmed it would restart flights on 15 June.

However, it said that levels of market demand seen in 2019 were not likely to be reached again until 2023.

It added that in the coming days, it would launch an employee consultation process on the planned job cuts.

The latest number of new daily coronavirus deaths, external has been released by the government.

In the East, up to the end of Tuesday there was an increase of 39 deaths in the region's hospitals, taking the total number to 3,554. Monday's figures recorded 18 deaths, but the jump is likely to be a result of the reporting lag over the bank holiday.
