    A pedestrian was seriously injured , externalwhen he was hit by a car in Coventry last night.

    The ambulance service was called to the crash at the junction of Sky Blue Way and Walsgrave Road, in Coventry, at about 23:30.

    It says the man sustained multiple serious injuries and needed advanced trauma care.

    There's a call for the city council to take over the organisation of the Coventry Half Marathon after the company that's been running it pulled out.  

    Go2 events, who've staged the 13-mile run for the past three years, say they don't want to carry on with their current agreement.   

    Conservative councillor Tim Mayer says there's now an opportunity for the authority to take control and self-fund the event through advertising revenues.

    Rugby Town footballer Elliot Palmer has left hospital and is recovering at home, say the club.

    The 21-year-old defender suffered three broken ribs and bleeding on the kidney and liver after the match against local rivals Bedworth United.

    The owner of a Polish shop in Coventry destroyed in a suspected arson attack says he's "devastated".

    Norbert Krupan, who's lived in the area for seven years and opened the shop a year ago, said he was just "confused".

    "We've had it confirmed that we've been targeted and someone's done this deliberately", he said.

    "The police ask me if it was maybe a racial background, or maybe the competition, I really don't know."

    The BBC has launched its Love to Read campaign, where lovers of literature are being asked to share their favourite books.

    Across the country famous novels which have been shaped by the local landscape are being celebrated. 

    One of the greatest novelists of all time, George Eliot, was hugely influenced by the Warwickshire countryside - as Lindsay Doyle has been finding out.

    Police say it's too early to confirm if a suspected arson attack on a Polish shop in Coventry will be investigated as a hate crime.

    Forensic investigators from West Midlands Police will visit the scene of the fire, which completely destroyed the unit in Remembrance Road.

    The fire service says 15 firefighters tackled a blaze overnight which has completely destroyed a Polish food shop in Coventry.

    Three engines were sent to the severe fire in Remembrance Road, Willenhall.

    A severe fire at a Polish food shop in Coventry is being investigated as a suspected arson attack.

    West Midlands Police was called to the blaze in Remembrance Road, Willenhall, at 03:40.

    Motorway police are warning car cloning appears to be on the rise in the West Midlands. 

    It involves criminals stealing a car's details, making fake plates and then using the vehicle to commit other crimes.

    Laura Marcus, from Staffordshire, had her car cloned and later received a speeding ticket from London.

    She says she was shocked and worried about proving she hadn't broken the law.

    The future of Coventry's half marathon is in doubt after the council confirmed organiser GO2 will not be extending its contract, which ended after this year's race.

    The council says it's disappointed and is unable to confirm whether the race will go ahead next year.

    It adds it will now be "actively looking at alternative options" for delivering the event in the future.
