    The government is promising to raise the future of Coventry City with the Football League amid fresh concern the Sky Blues may have to leave the city yet again.

    Attending a parliamentary debate on the future of the Sky Blues, sports minister Tracey Crouch pledged to raise issues about the club with the League.

    She said she hoped history wouldn't repeat itself and the club "finds itself playing outside the city" again.

    She backed fans' calls for clarity from the League over rules for clubs leaving their home cities and would be asking them to "confirm its position".

  2. Clown speaks out against 'creepy clowns' crazepublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    Police say they've received a surge of emergency calls reporting "creepy clowns" across the country, including across the West Midlands.

    Pat the Clown, based in Birmingham, has spoken out against the craze which he believes is inspired by American films and could badly affect the clown industry.

  3. Men jailed for 1980s child rapespublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    Two men who raped girls in Nuneaton and Bristol in the early 1980s have been jailed, external.

    At Warwick Crown Court, Terry Davies, (pictured left) admitted rape along with a string of indecent assaults against two girls in the Nuneaton area.

    After a trial, Owen Jackson (right) was found guilty of raping one of the same girls on three occasions.

    Both men were jailed for 14 years on Monday.

    • Terry Davies, 49, pleaded guilty to one count of rape, 17 counts of indecent assault and one count of indecency against two girls under the age of 10
    • Owen Jackson, 46, Murdoch Square, Bristol, found guilty of raping one girl on three occasions in Nuneaton and Bristol, when she was around 11 years old

  4. School brings beach to landlocked Rugbypublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    An artificial beach built by a school in Rugby which teaches children with special needs, will be unveiled to pupils on Saturday.

    Head teacher Chris Pollitt said the beach, complete with a Blackpool tram, "had been kept secret behind a fence".

    "A lot of our children have complex special needs and travelling two hours to the beach at Weston [super-Mare] can be a difficult experience," he said.

  8. Minister considers bringing in mediator to settle Sky Blues disputepublished at 14:36 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    Sports Minister Tracey Crouch is to consider drafting in a mediator to help resolve the crisis at Coventry City Football Club.

    The government faced calls from Coventry MP Jim Cunningham to "get all sides together" to resolve problems, at a parliamentary debate today.

    The MP said unless club owners Sisu decided to enter into a dialogue or sell up, then the future of the club "hangs in the balance".

    Stratford-upon-Avon is benefiting from international visitors, who spent an estimated extra £800m while holidaying in the UK last year than in the previous 12 months, a tourist group claims.

    The figures published by Visit Britain, external show the biggest spenders are American, who splashed £3bn in the UK, but Chinese tourists have just entered the top 10 for the first time.

  12. MP tells owners of Coventry City to 'sell up'published at 13:05 British Summer Time 11 October 2016

    The MP for Coventry South Jim Cunningham has told Parliament the owners of the Sky Blues should "sell up".

    In a debate, heard in Westminster Hall, he also said the Football Association and League should explain how the owners of the club could "pass the fit and proper test" to run a football club.

    The club's lease at the Ricoh Arena runs out out at the end of next season - with the League One outfit previously having spent a year playing at Northampton because of financial problems. 

    The stadium landlord Wasps has pulled out of talks over a new deal amid the threat of legal action by Coventry's owners SISU.

    One person's been hurt in a crash on the M6 southbound between junctions two and one, says the ambulance service.

    It says the patient is "fully conscious and breathing" and not thought to have life-threatening injuries after the crash between a lorry and a car at 10:23. 

    Two lanes of the M6 southbound remain closed between junctions six and five due to a separate collision, but the ambulance service says it's not attending that one.

    The Coventry MP who's tabled a parliamentary debate on the Sky Blues says he's hoping to find out if there's been discussions behind the scenes between the government, the club and the Football League.

    MPs are discussing the future of the club in Westminster Hall.

    The MP for Coventry South Jim Cunningham said a lot would hinge on how the minister responds today.

    Representatives from the fan's organisation the Sky Blue Trust handed over their charter ahead of the meeting.

    Coventry City midfielder Ben Stevenson has signed a new contract with the club, external, securing him until June 2020.

    The 19-year-old has been with the club since the age of nine and has featured in 10 matches this season.
