    Chris Doidge
    BBC Radio Derby political reporter

A few, including The Guardian, have asked if Pat Glass’s comments, external to me in Sawley yesterday were off-the-record.

For something to be off-the-record, it’s got to be agreed by journalist and interviewee in advance.

I might agree to that if it aids my understanding of a story, or if a source would get into trouble for speaking to me.

But at no point yesterday did Pat Glass or her colleagues say, or even suggest, that the conversation was not for reporting.
