The councillor, who represents Stamford East, says Conservative MPs are ignoring the party's grassroots.

He said: "The parliamentary party is doing the exact opposite to what we want it to do and, in my view, it's selling democracy down the river.

Jason Fovargue, 34, of Hereward Road, Spalding, was arrested and detained by officers on 5 May and was taken by van to Boston Police Station.

But he was not handcuffed, and after arriving in the station's secure yard he made a run for it.

Hal Ewing, prosecuting, said he took the opportunity to run off when an officer checked to see if anything had been left in the van.

He said: "He jumped onto the police van and from there jumped over the gate and ran off into Boston town centre. He was in Boston for just over three-quarters of an hour before the police recaptured him.

"When he was arrested and then in interview he acknowledged that he panicked and had done something foolishly stupid. He said he didn't fancy spending the rest of the weekend in the police station."

Fovargue admitted escaping from custody and damaging a police vehicle.

He was given a four-month jail sentence, suspended for 12 months, with 140 hours of unpaid work and a three-month night time curfew.

The Lincolnshire Refugee Doctor Project, a non-profit Community Interest Company, will help qualified doctors get up to speed on procedures and processes so they can work in the UK.

It's aimed at helping them improve their language skills to get through the first part of their language exam and include an introduction to clinical practice.

Observation placements will then take place in clinical settings and guidance from mentors and tutors from primary care and hospital care backgrounds will help the doctors with CV writing.

In addition, the project will work alongside community groups and organisations to help the doctors’ families integrate into the local area.

A crowdfunding campaign's been launched to help with the costs.
