Animal rights campaigners have submitted a 25,000 strong petition against a planned poultry farm near Grantham.
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has described the plans for land at High Dike in Great Ponton as a “chicken prison”.
Residents are also calling on South Kesteven District Council to reject the plans which could see up to 270,000 birds housed at the site.
Kenny Dhillon, the agent for applicant Steward Adams, is urging people to "read the facts" and says it will work with the local community to help them to better understand the proposal.
Quote MessageThe plan is to cram as many as 45,000 birds in at a time into each of six long buildings, denying them not only the chance to do anything that’s natural and important to them, but also any life at all."

A man and two teenage boys are being treated in hospital after the stolen motorbike they were riding was involved in a crash earlier this morning.
It happened on Little Coates Road at the junction of Broadway around 01:30 when a black Honda CBR collided with a red Vauxhall Corsa.
An 18-year-old man sustained 'life changing' injuries including a broken neck, leg, arm and internal injuries.
A 17-year-old and a 16-year-old boy were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Humberside Police say all three were on the bike at the time, none of them were wearing helmets and they are currently under investigation for an alleged burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving.
It's believed the incident followed an altercation shortly before the collision and the 22-year-old driver of the car has been arrested on suspicion of three counts of GBH, three counts of dangerous driving, and one count of failing to stop.
Quote MessageThree people on one motorbike not wearing helmets is not only illegal but extremely dangerous. We have been giving warnings about this for a long time and we know that nuisance motorbike riding and motorbike crime is a concern for residents across the force area. This incident very clearly highlights these dangers and will undoubtedly change the lives of the four young people involved.

Plans to refurbish Lincoln's 50-year-old crematorium, including building a second chapel, have been approved by councillors.
A book of remembrance area, 81 car parking spaces and a new rose garden are also included in the proposals for the Washingborough Road facility.
The council say the new chapel will cater for up to 50 people and have its own cremation equipment.
Plans to close Lincoln's Usher Gallery and turn it into a wedding venue have been criticised by councillors.
Under proposals from Conservative-led Lincolnshire County Council areas of the gallery could be utilised for weddings, or celebrations as part of a wider plan to cut £750,000 a year from its heritage budget.
Members of the Labour group however have called for a decision to be delayed to allow the gallery and Historic Lincoln Trusts time to devise an alternative business plan.
Earlier this year, the proposal was met with criticism by the Lincolnshire-based artist John Byford.
The results of a public consultation have also revealed 75% of respondents want to keep the gallery open.
Despite the outcome, the authority say closure is still the preferred option with a final decision being made on 4 September.
The number of commercial burglaries in North East Lincolnshire has fallen by 62% following a number of "key arrests and convictions" in the area, say police.
Humberside Police said six men have been sentenced in connection with a string of break-ins at premises in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham, including DIY stores, pubs and shops, and three more men have been charged.
Det Sgt Tom Kelly said: “When you run a business you put your heart and soul into it, as well as your time and money, so when someone breaks in and steals from you or causes damage, it can have a real impact.
“We know that and that’s why we’re so pleased to have caught so many of those responsible for these kind of offences and put them before the courts."
