The helicopter was called to eight incidents on Sunday alone and had to land on the beach at Chapel Saint Leonards.

Air operations manager Chris Bailey says crews are well-practised in the art of beach landings.

He says: "The pilots are well-skilled in finding the quiet areas of the beach, but also as close as possible to the incident.

"Sometimes we do have the blue light services, like the police and sometimes the RNLI and the coastguards, offering their support. But certainly on one of those, the pilot just has to find the quietest area of the beach and put down."

  5. Arrest over drug offences after East Marsh walkaboutpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences thanks to information collected during a walkabout by police and representatives from other agencies at East Marsh, police say.

    Police

Officers from Humberside Police were joined on the patrol earlier this month by ward councillors and Neighbourhood Watch representatives as well as staff from the fire service, Lincolnshire Housing Partnership and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

They visited homes across the area and spoke to residents about issues and concerns they had and told them about action being taken to deal with crime and anti-social behaviour.

Sgt Dan Healey said: “On this occasion, we were given information about an address in Wellington Street which was linked to drug-related crime.

“We visited the address and found a quantity of what we believe to be 'Spice' and a 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

“He’s now been released under investigation, pending further inquiries, but it’s a really good example of how your information can really make a difference.”

  6. Drugs and weapons seized after car stopped on M180published at 16:32 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

A man and a woman have been arrested after a car believed to be involved in drug dealing in Grimsby was spotted in West Yorkshire and followed by police.

    Police

The VW Golf was spotted at about 11:45 yesterday and was followed by Humberside Police's roads policing officers and tracked by the police helicopter.

The car was stopped on the eastbound M180 about a mile from the M18 junction using a three- car "rolling roadblock".

No one was hurt and there was no damage to any of the vehicles, police say.

A 28-year-old woman from Grimsby was arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug, possession of an offensive weapon, and possession of a knife.

A 26-year-old man, also from Grimsby, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a class A drug, supplying a controlled drug and possession of an offensive weapon.

Drugs and weapons were seized from the car.

Both have been released under investigation.

  7. Private ambulance use up in Yorkshire and Lincolnshirepublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

The number of private ambulances used for 999 and non-emergency call-outs has risen in Yorkshire and the East Midlands region, which includes Lincolnshire, in the last year, figures show.

    Yorkshire Ambulance Service

Data obtained from the 10 ambulance trusts in England via a Freedom of Information request show the East Midlands ambulance trust is fourth in the national spending table, with Yorkshire being sixth.

Both regions spent more in 2018-19 than they did in 2017-18.

In total, NHS ambulance trusts in England spent £92,476,915 on private ambulances and taxis in 2018-19, compared to £90,862,230 the year before.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesman said it was investing more than £36m for trusts to buy 256 new vehicles.

  8. Lincolnshire MP backs plans for countryside phone mastspublished at 15:15 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

A move opening the way for bigger and taller mobile phone masts to be built without councils' permission in countryside in England has been welcomed by a Lincolnshire MP.

    Matt WarmanImage source, Parliament UK

It forms part a proposed overhaul of planning rules to speed up the roll-out of 5G networks and improve mobile coverage in rural areas.

Currently, masts on public land must be no more than 82ft (25m) high, but ministers want to relax these rules.

Matt Warman (pictured), the Conservative MP for Boston and Skegness and Minister for Digital and Broadband, says the move makes sense.

He says: "In this case networks can get on with building out in just the same way that lots of homeowners can take advantage of permitted development rights to put on relatively modest extensions to their own homes.

"It's not a new concept, but it is one in this case which could make a real difference to filling in those black spots."

The shopkeeper was targeted in his business premises where he was subject to extreme violence by these three criminals who were in possession of knives. The knives were used solely to maximise fear. Anyone who saw the CCTV footage will see that it was just by luck alone that the victim in this case was not seriously hurt."

  11. Lincolnshire firearms trial leads to new licensing planpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

Police forces across the UK are introducing new rules meaning anyone applying for a firearms licence must provide an up-to-date GP assessment following a successful trial in Lincolnshire.

    Police

Lincolnshire was the first place in the country to insist on police seeing a doctor's report rather than just assuming everything was fine if nothing was heard back from a GP within 21 days.

The changes have also cut down on waiting times for licences to be approved.

    Quote Message

Part and parcel of the historical issues were the delays with applications coming in at a different time to medical reports and further information. Now thanks to the online digital application process, the application comes in in its entirety as a whole document."

  14. Matchday bins to help keep Sincil Bank clean and tidypublished at 11:38 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

Extra wheelie bins are to be put out on Lincoln City match days from this week, it's been confirmed.

The city council and football club say they hope the bins will encourage supporters to stop littering and using people's private bins around the ground at Sincil Bank.

Several residents will put out the matchday bins, which feature Lincoln City FC branding, ahead of a game and they'll be emptied along with the household waste.

    Quote Message

The impact that matchdays at Sincil Bank stadium can sometimes have on the environment in the local area is recognised, so the idea of residents volunteering to host matchday bins is therefore something we are keen to trial."

  16. Patients missing out on extra GP appointmentspublished at 10:04 British Summer Time 27 August 2019

Health bosses in Lincolnshire say patients are missing out on GP appointments because they are not aware that they can book in the evening or at the weekend.

    Dr Leke Oyedotun

GPs say most of the appointments aren't being filled and many people are making unncessary trips to Accident and Emergency.

A new scheme is underway in Louth whereby patients can see their doctor in the evening or at the weekend. Dr Leke Oyedotun is one of the regular doctors on duty.

He says: "The appointments are a little bit longer. Most GP appointments are for 10 minutes, this is for 15 minutes so it does take in to account that we don't know the patients. But in our GP practices, we don't know all our patients, we get to meet them over time.

"It is a bit tricky but most doctors are well equipped in dealing with uncertainty and new patients."
