    A Royal British Legion worker has been jailed this afternoon after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a widow he was supposed to helping.

    Michael Furniss, 62, has also been placed on the sex offenders register for life.

    Sentencing him to two years and three months in prison, Judge Steven Coupland told Furniss, of North Hykeham, near Lincoln, that he targeted the vulnerable woman in an "appalling offence".

    The Royal British Legion says it has taken action as a result of the case.

    A jet plane, which will be converted into accomodation, has arrived on site at the former RAF Wainfleet.

    The Jetstream plane was transported from Norfolk this afternoon.

    Owner of the holiday spot Will Roughton is going to convert it into rooms for guests over the winter.

    But he says the reassembly has already bamboozled him.

    A Lincolnshire man has been banned from entering Lincolnshire after admitting a firearms offence.

    65-year-old Robert Farrington, from Temple Hirst in Selby, pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence after an incident in New York near Coningsby on September 9.

    The man had previously lived in the Lincolnshire village.

    Farrington will be sentenced on 7 November.

    The headteacher of a school attended by a teenage boy who was injured in a crash in Lincolnshire yesterday has described the scene shortly after the collision.

    A 15-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision in North Hykeham between a bike she was travelling on and a lorry shortly after 17:00 on Wednesday evening.

    A 14-year-old boy who was also travelling on the bike remains in hospital with serious injuries.

    Dale Hardy, the headteacher of the boy's school, Sir Robert Pattinson Academy, says he was at a parents' evening when he found out about the crash.

    Teachers ran out to help provide support at the incident, he said:

    A woman was assaulted as she was walking in part of Scunthorpe earlier this week, police say.

    The victim was attacked as she walked in the area around Scotter Road and South Park at about 20:30 on Monday.

    Her attacker has been described as being in his 20s, of slim build and wearing a baseball cap.

    Police are appealing for witnesses.

    Students at a school in Lincolnshire have been left "heartbroken" after one of their fellow pupils was killed when the bike she was riding on collided with a lorry, the headteacher has said.

    The 15-year-old girl, a pupil at North Kesteven Academy, was pronounced dead at the scene on Station Road in North Hykeham at about 17:10 yesterday.

    The girl is believed to have been travelling on a bicycle with a 14-year-old boy when the collision happened.

    The boy has been left with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

    A steady stream of school children has been laying flowers at the junction with Newark Road this morning.

    Many of them have been in tears, with a member of school staff there to comfort children.

    The school's headteacher, Jo Cunniliffe, says everyone was "heartbroken to hear of the death of one of our students".

    The headteacher of Sir Robert Pattinson Academy, the boy's school, says staff and students' "thoughts and prayers are with both families at this awful time".

    Lincolnshire's Wildlife Trust says that even "walking around your nearest green space" can be beneficial.

    The University of Essex have released a study to mark World Mental Health day.

    They found people reported feeling significantly better after taking part in outdoor projects.

    Forget jetting off to sunny climes for your holiday, a jet plane itself could could soon be Lincolnshire's latest destination.

    A Jetstream plane (similar to the one pictured above) is due to be delivered at the former site of RAF Wainfleet later, where it will be converted into rooms for holidaymakers.

    The destination is already home to a Lynx helicopter and a former RAF control tower which guests can stay in.

    RAF Wainfleet was once a training ground for the famous Dambusters in World War Two.

    A 15-year-old girl has died after a bicycle she and another teenager were riding on collided with a lorry in North Hykeham.

    It happened at about 17:10 yesterday evening on Station Road (pictured).

    The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

    A 14-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries which aren't believed to be life-threatening.

    Anyone who saw what happened is being asked to contact Lincolnshire Police on 101.

    Boating will return to Boultham Park in Lincoln after an improvements project was approved by city councillors.

    City of Lincoln Council’s planning committee backed the scheme last night, which will see a 10-boat pontoon built and a series of fishing pegs installed around the lake.

    A new viewing platform, seating area and five pieces of public art in the park are also included in the plan.

    Tammy Smalley, head of conservation at Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, which supported the plan, said the project will help improve the biodiversity of the park.

    A peaceful protest is being planned in Louth to highlight the plight of pigeons caught up in netting on the Town Hall.

    Meg Johnson, 21, who owns a pet shop in the town, has arranged next's month action.

    She says birds are getting trapped and dying because the netting isn't fitted correctly.

    Andy Howlett, chief executive of the Town Hall, says he's trying to find someone who can replace the netting at an affordable price.

    The netting is checked three times a day, Mr Howlett adds.

    Two people have been seriously injured in a collision involving a lorry and a cyclist in Lincolnshire.

    It happened just after 17:00 yesterday afternoon on Station Road in North Hykeham, with two people taken to hospital for treatment as a result.

    The road was closed for several hours following the crash as police carried out their investigations.

    Officers are appealing for anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
