Fencing has been put up around the site in St Peter's Hill where the statue is due to be mounted on a 10ft-high plinth.
A date for the unveiling has not yet been revealed but previously businesses owners were told to expect it early this year.
The sculpture was offered to Grantham after the original plans for it to be erected in Parliament Square in Westminster were rejected.
At a meeting last year councillors were told Thatcher's "divisive nature" may make it a potential target for vandalism.
Three people have appeared in court charged in connection with the death of a man found in a drainage channel in Boston.
The body of 46-year-old Marcin Stolarek, 46, from Poland, was discovered in South Forty Foot Drain, on Chain Bridge Road, on 12 January.
Lincolnshire Police said he died in a "sustained attack".
Adam Kaminski, aged 26 of Union Court in Boston, and 26-year-old Justyna Swiatelz, also of Union Court, are both charged with his murder while Adam Maksajda, 33, of no fixed address, has been charged with perverting the course of justice.
All three appeared at Lincoln Crown Court earlier where they were remanded into custody to appear at the same court on 21 February. A provisional trial date was set for 29 July.
Two people have been taken to hospital following a crash in Spalding earlier.
Police say a lorry and a car were involved in the collision on Commercial Road.
The road was closed all morning.
Investigations are under way into what caused a Lincolnshire church tower to collapse at the weekend.
The tower, at St John the Baptist, in High Toynton, near Horncastle, collapsed on Sunday morning. No one was hurt.
The fallen masonry in the churchyard has been cordoned off with police tape.

One of Britain's oldest department stores, which has branches in Lincolnshire, has collapsed into administration.
Beales has shops in Skegness and Spalding.
KPMG has been appointed as administrators.
It is understood that there will be no immediate closures and stores will continue to trade.
In the year to March 2019, Beale Ltd reported a loss of £3.1m, up from £1.3m for the year earlier as costs swelled and sales dipped.
Beales's chief executive Tony Brown led a management buyout of the firm in 2018.

I'm here at St John the Baptist Church in High Toynton, near Horncastle, where there's a scene of devastation.
The main entrance and the church tower collapsed on Sunday and there's a massive pile of rubble.
Thankfully no one was hurt in the collapse.
The church gates now have blue and white police tape on them as investigations continue into exactly what happened.

Lincolnshire Police says officers will be carrying out regular checks of the site.
Extra police patrols have been taking place in Lincoln after a woman reported she was sexually assaulted at the weekend.
The 19-year-old said she was walking near the Tentercroft Street car park in the city centre on Saturday morning when she was approached by a man and attacked.
Investigations are under way and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
