Andrei-Mihai Simion-Munteanu tells a court he felt "awful" after killing his mother.
Read MoreA student has told a jury at Lincoln Crown Court that he killed his mum and her partner because "he is evil" and thought it would make him happy.
Andrei-Mihai Simion-Munteanu, 22, of Lincoln Road, Branston, denies murdering the couple in July last year claiming it was manslaughter through diminished responsibility.
He was asked in court if he'd killed his mum Dr Leela Monti and her partner Robert Tully and he simply replied yes to both questions.
It also emerged that he'd taken the decision to kill them two weeks before he carried out the attack.
When explaining why he wanted to kill them, he said that he thought carrying out evil acts would make his depression go away but after strangling his mother it left him feeling awful.
Lincoln Crown Court has previously been told Simion-Munteanu had previously developed mental health problems and had spent time in a psychiatric unit.
The trial continues.

Dixon then approached the man and asked him the time before grabbing hold of the money.
A struggle ensued, during which the majority of the notes were torn. Dixon then fled the scene.

Patients are now being asked for their views on plans to give wider access to services, meaning more people - including transgender patients - would get the chance to have their sperm, eggs, or embryos frozen
Liz Ball, chief nurse for Lincolnshire East Clinical Commissioning Group, says it means more options will be available.
"It'll give people the opportunity, so if they are undecided at the moment whether they want children in the future, it will give a period of time for those preservations of freezing the eggs or sperm so...they can make a choice at a later stage."
There's been a sharp rise in the number of fines handed to parents in Lincolnshire for taking their children out of school during term time.
More than 3,000 penalty notices were handed to parents for unauthorised absences last year - an increase of 37% on the previous 12 months.
The number of cases going to court has also increased from 28 to 217 in just a year.
Lincolnshire County Council says if a child isn't in school they'll miss out on learning and risk falling behind.
Managers says schools are now more familiar with the process for issuing a penalty, which has contributed to the increase.

Pamela Brown, who runs a cafe in Bourne, says she'd be disappointed if it isn't taking place.

Although the original £12,130 target has been achieved, the Wyndham Park Forum has a wish list of extra features.
John Knowles, chairman of the forum, says: “It was amazing to hit our target with two weeks to go, and extra pledges have now come in, taking our target closer to £13,000.
