    A state-of-the-art Apache military helicopter remains parked in a Lincolnshire field after it developed hydraulic problems at the weekend.

    The copter's crew was forced to make a precautionary landing on Sunday.

    Engineers were then called out, but the stormy weather delayed repairs.

    The £24m aircraft is currently tethered and under guard near Sleaford.

    Power has been restored to the remaining 484 customers affected by Storm Ciara yesterday, according to Northern Powergrid.

    The company, responsible for managing the electricity distribution network across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, says its engineers "worked into the night" and continued to deal with the problem today.

    The severe gales and heavy rain seen yesterday caused power cuts for some 67,070 customers, predominantly in Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, the firm said.

    Rod Gardner, from Northern Powergrid, said: "We would like to thank our customers for their patience, understanding and some of the kind words they have expressed for people from across our business, who’ve worked tirelessly over the last two days to carry out work and to support our customers in extremely challenging conditions."

    Staff at a Lincolnshire hospital are celebrating after managing to perform 10,000 more blood tests than the year before.

    Johnson Community Hospital in Spalding performed about 45,000 tests in 2019, compared with just over 35,000 in 2018.

    It's after a drop-in service was introduced at the hospital.

    The service has also moved to a much bigger room so the number of staff on duty could be increased.

    Snow has started falling across parts of Lincolnshire this afternoon and a yellow weather warning for snow remains in place.

    The Met Office has issued the 'be aware' weather warning, external which is expected to be in place until 19:00 today.

    It comes just a day after the county was battered by winds reaching up to 78mph.

    Police say they are treating the death of a man whose body was found in Boston on Sunday as unexplained.

    Officers were called to a house in Pen Street, Boston, at about 11:20 after the body of a man in his 30s was discovered.

    Lincolnshire Police said it has a scene guard in place at the property while investigations continue.

  11. 'Wind vulnerable' Humber Bridge users face extended banpublished at 12:43 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

    The Humber Bridge is expected to remain closed to high-sided and "wind vulnerable" vehicles until Wednesday, according to Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

    High-sided vehicles were banned from the bridge as the effects of Storm Ciara were felt across Yorkshire.

    The fire service says: "The average wind speed in the area at the moment is 43mph, but this does not reflect the maximum gusts of wind across the bridge."

    Motorists are being advised to check on social media before travelling.

    "Please don't put yourself or other bridge users at risk," the fire service warns.

    A developer has submitted plans for a new industrial estate in Saxilby that could create up to 400 roles in the county.

    The proposed scheme will be located opposite the Riverside Enterprise Park site and the Saxilby Enterprise Park, which is just off the A57.

    Stirlin Developments says the 20-acre site will create over 200,000 sq ft of commercial property.

    The application has been submitted to West Lindsey District Council and, if approved, work will start before the end of the year.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue say they dealt with 47 reports of dangerous structures over the weekend as a result of Storm Ciara.

    Some areas of the UK experienced a month-and-a-half's worth of rainfall on Sunday and gusts of 97mph.

    Volunteers have been helping the emergency services clear trees blown down in the strong winds which buffeted Lincolnshire this weekend.

    About a dozen members of the Lincolnshire Community Assistance Team (LCAT) have been providing assistance at two locations where tress were blocking roads.

    LCAT is made up of volunteers who help their local community in times of need.

    Many own 4x4 vehicles which can be used to assist the emergency services in severe weather conditions.

    Hundreds of homes are still without power in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire today after Storm Ciara hit the region.

    Powerlines were damaged and sub-stations affected by high winds and flooding in many parts, particularly in West and North Yorkshire.

    Northern Powergrid, which manages electricity in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, said almost 68,000 people were affected by power cuts.

    However, most of those people have had their power restored with about 2,000 homes still affected.

    Rod Gardner, Northern Powergrid’s head of network operations, said: “Our teams are still out there working extremely hard.

    "We thank our customers for their understanding and patience and would like to reassure them that we remain focused on getting them back on supply as soon as we can."

    Storm Ciara has torn the sails off a windmill in Lincolnshire.

    Heavy rain and gusts up to 97mph caused widespread flooding and travel disruption across the UK on Sunday.

    In Lincolnshire the sails were blown off the top of the windmill in Burgh the Marsh just before midday.

    Malcome Ringsell, who volunteers at the mill, said: "The cap is in pieces, the sails are broken, everything is shattered. We do not know how much of the metalwork is savable, if any.

    "All in all it's an absolute disaster."
