Mr and Mrs Irving, from Sturton by Stow, have been given permission by West Lindsey District Council to close off the shelter in Spencer Court.

Documents submitted to the authority by Grey Castle Architectural said: “The reason for the alterations are due to an increase in anti-social behaviour taking place within the existing shelter – including but not limited to alcohol consumption, use of illegal substances, rough sleeping, urination and defecation.

“The current owner regularly has to clean and disinfect the space which is used by members of the public on a daily basis.”

People living nearby the site have reported hearing revving engines at the weekend.

It comes within months of a ban being lifted on the site to stop such activity

The order, which expired in October, banned vehicle gatherings, speeding or racing, obstruction of the highway, stunts and causing undue annoyance from music.

North Kesteven District Council (NKDC) lifted the ban because it hadn't had a complaint since March 2018.

  11. Tax row casts shadow over future of Lincolnshire Showpublished at 13:28 Greenwich Mean Time 11 February 2020

The future of the Lincolnshire Show is in doubt following a row over how much tax the organisers should pay.

    Lincolnshire Show

The show is run by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society (LAS) which, until now, has been accepted as a charity by West Lindsey District Council meaning it qualifies for a reduced tax rate.

But, the council says it has now received legal advice that it shouldn't be treated as a charitable organisation and is taking the matter to court.

Jayne Southall, CEO of Lincolnshire Showground, where the LAS is based, said they would be challenging the council's position.

She said: "We fully intend to challenge the decision taken by West Lindsey District Council to remove charitable rate relief for the showground so that we can ensure the future of our much-loved show, charitable work and the viability of other businesses and organisations that rely on our events and venue for income.”

A council spokesperson said it was unable to comment on the matter while the case was ongoing.
