Access to Hardwick airfield has been closed following the plane crash at Hardwick airfield yesterday afternoon, in which one man died and another was critically injured.

Emergency services were called to the airfield, close to the Norfolk/Suffolk border, site shortly after 15:30 yesterday.

The pilot of the P-51 Mustang - named locally as Maurice Hammond -  was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in a critical condition. His passenger, a man in his 80s, died at the scene.

Air accident investigators are sending a team to the airfield. The site is accessed by one road, Barondale Lane, which remains closed.

Our reporter Wally Webb, who's at the southern end of the old runway, says the crash took place at the nothern end of the airfield, in a farming area.

To be honest, I don't look at the league this early in season. It's still early days but it's nice to be up there picking up points.
