The parade will be followed by an invitation-only reception in the Assembly Room for the players, their guests and the club’s coaching and backroom staff.

Oxford City Council will also be flying the Oxford United flag over the 1930s extension to the town hall to mark the club’s promotion to the Championship.

Speaking ahead of today's bus parade, Oxford United's chief executive Tim Williams has admitted he is still "dazed and confused" after Saturday's 2-0 win against Bolton in the promotion play off final at Wembley.

"It’s nothing to do with numbers or money - it’s what it means for the fans to be out of the league for 25 years - it’s such an achievement to have come this far.

"It still feels surreal to see the trophy in the office.

"I’ve been here for two years. We were nearly relegated last year, to have turned it around in a year in incredible.

"We’ve proved we’ve got grit, determination and resilience to mobilise. It’s not just about one player - Josh Murphy’s two goals - it’s about everyone coming together."
