    Dozens of lambs and ewes have been rescued by firefighters after getting trapped by rising flood water.

    Firefighters guided the 24 lambs and ewes to higher ground.

    The number of flood alerts in Shropshire and Cheshire have increased as the Met Office is warning there could be more flooding over the next 24 hours.

    It has a yellow weather warning in place for most of the West Midlands until midnight and then the warning moves to cover a smaller area until midday tomorrow, external, but does include Cheshire.

    The Environment Agency has two flood warnings in place in Shropshire along with five flood alerts in the county. , external

    There are also four flood alerts in Staffordshire and one covering Crewe and Nantwich in Cheshire.

    Several cars were damaged when a beech tree collapsed on to them in Shropshire.

    Witness Roger Littleover said no-one had been hurt when the tree came down this morning on three vehicles at the main entrance of Bridgnorth Cemetery.

    He added he had had a lucky escape as he normally parked where the tree had fallen and the roof of one of the cars had been completely crushed.

    Flood barriers are to go up in Frankwell, in Shrewsbury this evening, with the Environment Agency saying it is expecting more rain overnight, external.

    High river levels in Maesbrook and Melverley are expected to make their way downstream to Shrewsbury in the coming days.

    River levels are continuing to rise in parts of the West Midlands as more rain's forecast for the next 24 hours.

    The Environment Agency still has two flood warnings on the River Vyrnwy near Oswestry, which mean flooding is expected. , external

    There are also nearly a dozen flood alerts - meaning flooding is possible - across the West Midlands, including in Shropshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire.

    The agency says it expects some river levels to peak this evening but that could change with more rain on the way.

    Drivers are being warned of a lot of surface water and flooded rivers in Shropshire today.

    Dave Throup, of the Environment Agency, has tweeted , externalthat the rain's affecting a lot of low-lying roads, including Boreton Ford, near Condover, south of Shrewsbury:

    The A49 at Woofferton, south Shropshire, Hanwood Road towards Edgebold Roundabout, the B4386 between Westbury and Minsterley, and the Mount outside Shrewsbury are all affected by flooding.

    Several roads are shut across Cheshire because of flooding and drains are struggling to cope, Cheshire East Council has said.

    The local authority said most of the reports it was dealing with were in the south of the county, around Crewe and Nantwich., external

    It said drains in the area were reaching capacity and driving conditions remained difficult as there was a lot of standing water around.

    No trains are running this morning between Crewe and Chester because the railway lines are blocked with flood water.

    Services between Shrewsbury and Chester are also suspended due to flooding.

    Network Rail said it was working to pump the water away, external and passengers should check with National Rail Enquiries for the latest travel information.

    In Shropshire, Newport Road under the railway line in Shifnal is blocked by flood water.

    Meanwhile, in Shropshire, where there are several flood alerts and flood warnings this morning, Shrewsbury Police said the road through Westbury was flooded , external(pictured below).

    Travel service Inrix says the A49 at Woofferton, south Shropshire, Hanwood Road towards Edgebold Roundabout and the Mount outside Shrewsbury are all affected by flooding.
