A body has been found by police searching for a missing teenager in Newcastle.
17-year-old Ahmed Mukhtar was last seen near the Centre for Life in the city at around 02:40 on Friday 27 November.
A body was discovered yesterday and while formal identification is yet to take place, police believe it is that of the teenager.
His family has been told and are being supported by specialist officers.
Det Ch Insp Angela Hufton, of Northumbria Police said: “This is an extremely tragic outcome and our thoughts are with Ahmed’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
An investigation had been launched to find the teenager after he was reported missing last weekend.
Police say they do not believe there to be any third party involvement and once formal identification has been completed a report will be prepared for the coroner.
