    Heavy rain has caused localised flooding on some roads in the region

    The A19 is now closed northbound between its junction with the A1018 at the Seaham Grange roundabout and the A690 near Sunderland.

    All northbound traffic will be taken off at the A1018 until further notice.

    The B1404 northbound entry sliproad is also closed.

    Go North East have said flooding at Wardley means bus services 67 and 69 are unable to stop at Wardley bus terminus.

    Durham Police have asked drivers to avoid Station View in Esh Winning, which is also closed because of flooding.

    The force said it was likely to remain closed for some time.

    Gritters on the A66 between Cumbria and the North East are struggling to clear snowfall as they are being caught in traffic jams caused by stranded lorries, police said.

    As we reported earlier, a number of vehicles have come to a standstill on the A66 including one HGV that jack-knifed.

    Durham Police said a full closure of the route from Brough to Bowes, in County Durham, had been considered but "traffic needs to be moving to help the salt work".

    Heavy snow has fallen across large parts of the North East.

    An amber snow warning is in place for high inland areas, external of the region until midday while there are yellow warnings for snow and ice covering all but the coast.

    Durham Police is urging people to only travel if "essential" and take care.

    Photographer Owen Humphreys has been out in Bowes in County Durham taking pictures of residents battling with the snow while ploughs strive to keep the A66 open.
