Six attacks on crews despite fall in Bonfire call outs
There were six attacks on crews over the Bonfire Night weekend, the Tyne and Wear service said.
They all involved missiles being thrown at fire engines but no one was hurt.
The service thanked the public after a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of fire and fireworks, as well as about anti-social behaviour.
Early figures showed a decrease of almost 12% in the number of calls received, from 915 in 2020 to 807 this year.
On Friday the fire control room handled 356 calls, a drop of more than 22% from last year, when the number of calls was 459.
