A hundred jobs will be created in Sunderland if a car tyre
recycling plant is given planning permission.
The facility, which could be up and running by 2024, will
be built on empty land within the port and handle 10m tonnes of used tyres
every year.
Vianney Vales, chief executive of Wastefront, told BBC Radio
Newcastle: “We wanted a port, a place with a tradition of industry where we could
find skilled labour.
“When we talked to the port of Sunderland, the welcome was
fabulous and the choice became obvious.”
