    The family of a woman who died when she was hit by a car on the A19 near Sunderland says she will be remembered as someone who put "other people's needs before her own".

    Jean Buckle, 68, died at the scene between the A690 and the A183 in the early hours of 16 February.

    In a statement her family said: “Jean was a wonderful caring, kind, thoughtful person, who would help everyone she could, always putting other people’s needs before her own.

    “She was loved and will be missed by all her family and friends.”

    Northumbria Police has asked for any witnesses to contact them,

    The 33-year-old car driver was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and continues to assist with the investigation, it said.
