    Tom Brake

The Liberal Democrat MP Tom Brake says the election results show there was "no ringing endorsement" among the British public for a no-deal Brexit.

"It will renew the vigour of members of Parliament like the Liberal Democrats and in other political parties who are going to do everything they can to block no deal, but also to secure a People's Vote," he said.

"Which, I think, for any future Conservative prime minister is the only way out of this almighty mess that they have created."

Conservative vice-chair Paul Scully tells Adrian Chiles that the party has lost "hard-working" MEPs in the European Parliament.

"We've got to show that we have a vision on domestic issues" he says, on issues such as crime and the NHS.

Mr Scully says the party needs a leader who can "inject some good will back into the process". He says there has been a "lack of trust" within Parliament under the current leadership.

"I genuinely haven't made my mind up" on who he will give his support to in the upcoming leadership election, he states.

  6. The big picture in Europepublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 27 May 2019

The elections saw the big centre-right and centre-left blocs in the European Parliament lose their combined majority amid an increase in support for liberals, Greens and nationalists.

While pro-EU parties are still expected to be in a majority, the traditional blocs will need to seek new alliances.

Amid the highest turnout in 20 years, populist and far-right parties gained ground in some countries but fell short of the very significant gains some had predicted.

  7. SNP MP says party have won 'emphatically' in Scotlandpublished at 11:25 British Summer Time 27 May 2019

    BBC Radio 5 Live

SNP MP Drew Hendry tells the BBC his party have won the election "emphatically" in Scotland.

"It clearly shows that Scotland, yet again, have voted against Brexit," he states.

Since the 2014 independence referendum "we've been promised that we'd be listened to," he says.

He says a further referendum on Scotland's place in the UK "must be an option" if there is a no-deal exit from Europe.

"There is no such thing as a good Brexit," he says, citing the government's own analysis. Westminster holds Scotland in "total disdain," he adds.

    BBC Radio 5 Live

The Brexit Party's Richard Tice says the results show the need to "respect democracy".

"The message is clear, the country wants to get on with it," he states.

He says that leaving "wouldn't be so complex" if there was not a Remain prime minister, cabinet and civil service.

"We're still arguing about it," he says, and the UK has wasted money on European elections "which should never have taken place".

"The two party system has actually failed British politics," he says.

  20. Green Party leader: 'Second referendum even more compelling'published at 10:07 British Summer Time 27 May 2019

    Jonathan Bartley

Jonathan Bartley, co-leader of the Green Party, said last night's results means there is now "an even more compelling case" for a second referendum on Brexit.

The Greens saw their best performance since 1989, electing seven MEPs.

"The country's divided right now, but I think everyone's united in believing that the political system is broken and it needs urgent reform," he said.

"And people are sending very, very clear messages by voting for parties like the Greens, that reform is needed and long overdue."
