A special plenary began at 13.30 with a statement by the First Minister Carwyn Jones on Tata Steel.

The members have been recalled to discuss the steel industry in Wales following the Tata Steel announcement last week. The subject:Support for the Steel Industry in Wales.
During the session today Carwyn Jones confirms that a package of support worth more than £60m that was available for Tata "remains on the table", made up of a commercial loan plus cash for environmental improvements and up to €2m for skills and training.
Carwyn Jones also tells the debate he is skeptical that Port Talbot is losing £1m a day.

Carwyn Jones tells the Assembly: "This is a strategic industry, It needs government help, It needs to be run for the future, for the good of Britain and for the good of our communities in Wales."
Plaid Cymru's Lindsay Whittle recalls a period in 1981 when he was unemployed for 7 months as the "worst period of my life."
Liberal Democrat Eluned Parrott says workers are "heartily fed-up" of crisis after crisis.
She says the first minister does not hold "all the cards" but it is "no reason not to play the cards that you do have."
Carwyn Jones tells the Assembly "Steelmaking capacity is fundamental to a major industrial economy.
"It's difficult to imagine... how the UK could prosper without the ability to make its own steel."

The Welsh Secretary Alun Cairns said the UK government is ready to assist investors with the cost of paying for Port Talbot steelworks.
The UK government will "stand ready to support any potential investor," he said.
But after the meeting, Mr Cairns warned there was no certainty about the future of different Tata sites in Britain.
David Rees AM tells the first minister, "There's clearly a time for both governments to work together as one to unite.... And I hope that if the UK government doesn't take the lead, and l've got to be honest, my faith has not been convinced yet in the UK government, I would want the Welsh government to take the lead on this."

Union leaders marched into emergency talks to save the beleaguered Tata Steel works.
They have called for the government to step in to protect the Port Talbot steel plant whilst a buyer is sought to take over the complex.
Unions are also pressing for a deal to have the whole plant taken over instead of selling parts of the operation off piecemeal.

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the Welsh Assembly buildings in Cardiff Bay ahead of the meeting.
Kirsty Williams, the leader of the Liberal Democrats tells Mr Jones, "This is an industry not only too big to fail, It's am industry too good to let fail."
Plaid Cymru Leader Leanne Wood tells the first minister "we must be all prepared to do what we can now, to do whatever it takes to keep those furnaces burning in Port Talbot. We owe it those workers to show leadership on this."

Assembly election campaigning has been suspended for the crisis recall after Tata Steel UK went up for sale.
About 6,000 Welsh jobs are under threat, including more than 4,000 in Port Talbot.

"These plants cannot close. Welsh steel, British steel cannot be allowed to die."
This is an emergency session with members recalled from its Easter recess to discuss Tata Steel.
First Minister Carwyn Jones opens with a statement before taking questions from Assembly Members.
The Assembly members have been recalled from their Easter recess to Cardiff Bay today to debate Tata Steel's decision to sell off its UK operation as a going concern.
The session will be in the old debating chamber in Tŷ Hywel because they're replacing the IT system at Y Senedd.
