    The debate follows a South African report which suggested it was discriminatory that the country only officially celebrates Christian holidays.

  4. Meet South Africa's new 'It couple'published at 12:54 British Summer Time 16 July 2015

    South Africa's sports minister is among many South Africans congratulating rapper Cassper and actress Boity Thulo for announcing that they are a couple.

    The news came in Drum magazine.

    Not sure of their significance? The Times Live website, external describes them as country's new "it couple".

  5. Tunisia 'gives Algeria terror list'published at 12:18 British Summer Time 16 July 2015

    North Africa analyst tweets

    Tunisia has handed a list of 100 suspected terrorists to Algeria as part of the security cooperation between the two countries, Algerian media is reporting, external (in French). 

    Nationalities of those reportedly on the list are Tunisian, Algerian, Moroccan, Libyan, Nigerian and Malian.

    The reports follow a deadly beach attack in Tunisia last month in which 38 tourists were killed.

    Some of Kenya's most famous athletes, including former marathon world record holder Wilson Kipsang, are taking part in a 900km "Walk for Peace" through Kenya's North Rift Valley to raise awareness and funds for communities in the area.

    The area has provided some of the country's best long-distance runners, but has been hit by ethnic violence over the past 18 months in which hundreds of people have been killed and thousands displaced.

    Commonwealth Gold Medallist John Kelai is taking part in the 22-day walk, having lost three of his uncles to cattle rustling. 

    He told the BBC's Newsday programme all the villages they've visited so far have embraced the idea.
