Fraudsters rob festival goers through hacked email account

People have lost hundreds of pounds because a campsite in Sark has had its website hacked, according to Guernsey Police.
Officers have received reports of people trying to book accommodation at the Pomme de Chien Campsite, ahead of this summer's Sark Folk Festival, but the money appears to be going to a third party.

Police said they believe the email account for the website has been hacked, with the intercepted emails being given false bank details.
At least one person is said to have lost "hundreds of pounds".
The Sark Folk Festival is taking place from 5-7 July 2019, and regularly attracts at least 1,200 people to the island.
Island's pet owners encouraged to prepare for Brexit

The States Vet, Theo Knight-Jones, is advising island pet owners to prepare now for travelling to the European Union with their pets after Brexit.
Dog and cats will still be able to travel to the EU with their owners after the UK leaves, but in the event of a no-deal Brexit, they may have to take additional steps.
The first step would need to be taken more than four months before travel, so anyone travelling with their pet on 30 March 2019 would need to start preparing on 28 November 2018 or before.
If there is a no-deal Brexit, those planning to travel to the EU with their pet cat or dog after Friday 29 March 2019 will need to make sure their pet:
has been microchipped
has had a rabies vaccination
has had a blood test after the rabies vaccination to confirm that the pet is adequately protected
sees a vet for a health certificate no more than ten days before travel
Any pet owners with travel plans are advised to speak to their private vet for more information about the requirements.

Normally it’s just Flybe that operates between the islands and Exeter, but the bad weather has seen an Aurigny ATR make an unscheduled stop.
Passengers are due to get back in the air shortly.

Flybe’s morning flight from Exeter was cancelled earlier and the afternoon service is currently delayed by more than two hours.
It is nevertheless an important one, according to Guernsey's chief minister.
That's because it distinguishes the islands from the UK in getting specific arrangements as part of the exit deal.

"The Prime Minister has repeatedly made clear that our interests are not going to be excluded from the ongoing negotiations and I am pleased that continues to be reflected in the UK’s position," Deputy Gavin St Pier said.
"As noted back in March of this year the Implementation Period being put forward in the Withdrawal Agreement would apply to the Crown Dependencies, maintaining the status quo in most areas including the movement of goods.
"It also covers the protection of the rights of EU nationals and of British nationals," Deputy St Pier added.
Delayed unveiling of WW1 memorial set to take place

The delayed unveiling of a new World War One memorial in Jersey is due to take place later.
The Guillemont memorial will encase the Heart Stone from the Jersey Memorial in the town of Guillemont, the Somme.
The stone will be placed at Royal Square - near the point where the Jersey Contingent formed before its deployment to the Great War.
At the unveiling, there will be a full service led by the Bailiff, with singing from the Musical Originals.
The memorial was due to be unveiled on 9 November but was postponed because of the weather.

Brexit latest: Minister with CI responsibility staying put

'Beast' director gets 10 nominations in film awards

A Jersey film director's debut film has been nominated for 10 gongs at the British Independent Film Awards.
Michael Pearce's debut film Beast is inspired by the story of the Beast of Jersey - a serial sex offender who evaded capture for years - and much of it was filmed in the island.
Mr Pearce said he was thrilled to be nominated in so many categories and particularly happy that it was up for the Best British Film and Best Director awards.
Deputy Peter Roffey wants answers to 25 questions on the findings of the report, and has asked what action will be taken by the responsible committee to rectify the shortcomings it identified.
The Home Affairs Committee says the States will get an update in December and its members will also attend a Scrutiny Committee hearing called in the wake of the report.

Blue Islands 'could market services' itself if required

Blue Islands has said it could market its own flights if it needed to, after the airline's franchise partner, Flybe, announced it has put itself up for sale.
Flybe's share price has plummeted following poor financial performance, and it's expected to make a £22m loss this year.
Blue Islands' aircraft currently operates under the Flybe banner, with all its aircraft covered in the familiar purple livery, and the booking for Blue Islands' flights are made through the Flybe website.

The company said it would "watch with interest" how the potential sale of its franchise partner "evolves".

Two rejected sites for Jersey's new hospital are back on the agenda, following a review of the evidence that led to the decision to build it on Gloucester Street.
The assistant chief minister said the current Overdale Hospital and the Waterfront should be looked at again, almost two years since the States of Jersey backed the existing site.

Amid today's resignations, it appears the Brexit minister with a Channel Islands brief is staying put.
Robin Walker MP has backed Theresa May's heavily criticised draft EU withdrawal agreement.
He tweeted that it was a "decisive step forward".
The minister - who oversees the government's engagement with the Crown Dependencies - also had a feisty exchange on BBC Radio 5live earlier.
Islanders with diabetes 'shouldn't rely on charity'
