The minister in charge of Jersey's economy wants a review of the way businesses in the island pay rates.
Senator Lyndon Farnham told a meeting of politicians that some finance companies pay very low business rates, while other shops and cafes pay much higher.
Business rates are a tax on property used for business purposes.
He told the meeting the rates have been reassessed since the early 2000s and he plans to have them re-evaluated soon.
In a separate statement he said he will concentrate on the islands new retail strategy, before assisting in any review of rates.
But any changes are ultimately up to the Connétables.

An initiative aimed at assisting passengers with "hidden disabilities" is being introduced at Jersey Airport.
The Hidden Disability Pin & Lanyard scheme acts as a visual aid to alert airport staff the user has a hidden disability and may need additional time or consideration when travelling.
Many people live with hidden disabilities - conditions which don't have physical signs but are painful, exhausting and isolating.
Staff are trained to provide appropriate assistance, which may be required by both adults and children.
The lanyards or pins are available for collection at no charge from the airport - prior to accessing central security search and passengers do not have to pre-register for them.
Many UK airports now recognise the scheme, meaning passengers can expect a similar service on their return journey and they can retain the lanyard for future use - not just a single journey.
The scheme will be introduced on 3 December.

A health commission aimed at improving health care in Guernsey and Alderney is a step closer to being launched.
The Health Improvement Commission was formed as a company in October and has also been registered as a Bailiwick charity.
An agreement has now been signed with Health and Social Care setting out how the two can work together.
The commission will comprise of public, private and third sector organisations and will be responsible for implementing elements of some public health strategies which have been approved by the States.
Much like the Youth Commission and the Sports Commission, it's hoped it will also bring independent organisations under its umbrella and will raise part of its funding from non-government sources.

Guernsey will not need more infrastructure for the introduction of 5G, according to the chief digital officer of one of the island's telecom companies.
Justin Bellinger, from Sure, has been speaking ahead of a 5G conference which is being held later by CICRA to prepare Guernsey for the introduction of the next generation of mobile internet.
5G is faster and more reliable than 4G - which is the best connection currently available in the island.
It's hoped a test service will launch next year and then a Channel Island-wide service can be rolled out by 2021.

Quarrying Chouet headland could provide Guernsey with stone for more than 35 years, according to the company submitting plans.
Ronez general manager Steve Rousel wants to start quarrying the headland at Chouet in three years time.
Les Vardes quarry (pictured below) has eight years of use left before it becomes unusable, and Ronez wants a five-year overlap between starting at Chouet and closing Les Vardes.
Environmental impact assessments are being carried out at the potential site.

Image source, Getty Images/mariusz_prusaczykMore than half of red squirrels found dead in Jersey were killed after being hit by cars or other vehicles.
New research, external examined the squirrel population in Jersey between 2007 and 2014, and found 51% of the dead animals were killed due to traffic collisions.
The study also found 34% had died from disease, but there was no evidence of the deadly squirrelpox virus associated with the larger non-native grey squirrels.
It is estimated there are 500 red squirrels in Jersey.
The JSPCA is encouraging islanders to report any sightings of dead squirrels to the animal shelter.

A man was rescued from St Aubin's Fort after he got cut off by the tide on Saturday evening.
The man, in his 30s, was "lucky" to be able to make a call for help, Jersey Fire and Rescue helmsman Rick Ryan said.
Image source, Jersey Fire & Rescue ServiceThe coastguard received the call around 17:00 on Saturday from the man, who despite not being in immediate danger was not "adequately dressed" to wait six hours for the tide to be low enough to cross back along the fort's causeway.
"In these cold conditions, without adequate protection, there is a good chance that he could have succumbed to hypothermia," Mr Ryan said.
“When exploring Jersey's beaches and coastline always let someone back on shore know where you are going and what time you are expected to return.
"Mobile phones are great but should not be solely relied upon to get you out of trouble if required,” he added.
Monday will see spells of sunshine with the chance of a few showers. These will be most likely early on, and will become more isolated later.
