A "feisty" seal pup with a respiratory infection had to be rescued after washing up on a Jersey beach.
British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) teams were called on Monday morning by a dog walker who spied the struggling seal.
The underweight pup was taken to New Era Veterinary Hospital, where it was treated ready to be transferred to a rehabilitation centre in Guernsey.
BDMLR Jersey Coordinator, Donna de Gruchy, said: "Following this weekend's weather and higher tides I was not surprised at all to get a call this morning about a pup washing in.
"Although this pup is feisty and alert, his respiratory infection would not help him to survive this brutal time of year in the wild."
Members of the public are advised, if they find a stranded sea mammal to keep their distance - with any pets they may have - and to call the JSPCA or the States of Jersey's environment department.
