BDMLR Jersey Coordinator, Donna de Gruchy, said: "Following this weekend's weather and higher tides I was not surprised at all to get a call this morning about a pup washing in.

"Although this pup is feisty and alert, his respiratory infection would not help him to survive this brutal time of year in the wild."

Members of the public are advised, if they find a stranded sea mammal to keep their distance - with any pets they may have - and to call the JSPCA or the States of Jersey's environment department.

    Jersey hospital

Following the increase unions for nurses and midwives complained the re-evaluation was unfair.

An independent specialist, commissioned by the government, later found the workers' salaries had been increased "outside the recognised process" used for all other roles.

Employees who were uplifted by this exceptional process in November 2017 will now return to their original pay grade.

The deputy chair of the States Employment Board, Constable Richard Buchanan, said it was important the issue was resolved "fairly and appropriately".

"We won't be asking them [employees] to pay back any of the uplifted salary they received" he said, "because we don't want them to be penalised unfairly for a situation that is not their fault."
