The Jersey Care Federation has announced the launch of its first health care induction course, providing islanders with easier access to a career in health and social care.
The new training course is being delivered thanks to funding from the States of Jersey which supports initiatives designed to address local skills shortages.
Currently, there are no beginner courses on offer locally for individuals working in other industries who would like to move into the care sector.
It is hoped the pilot course, which will be run by a local training provider, will encourage more people to join the profession.
Quote MessageThe funding offered by the States of Jersey for this course will allow us to offer more local people with access to job opportunities and to support the health and well-being of islanders. We would encourage as many local residents as possible to get in touch to see if this course would suit them."

There are calls for the rules on branchage inspections to change to encourage landowners to be more aware of how their actions affect wildlife.
Twice a year, people who have land on public roads or footpaths have to make sure that all the grass, branches and trees are cut back.
If they aren't trimmed to a suitable size, the landowner could face a fine.
This year, a number of environmental campaigners and organisations have drawn up a list of changes to how branchage works, to prevent hedgehogs getting injured and habitats being destroyed in the hedge cutting.
The States of Jersey said it was something it was already looking at.
Quote MessageWhoever does the branchage - and that's mostly farmers - it's all about getting them on board and interested. There are some points where Branchage might become easier by doing it better and that's what we're looking at.

A kayaker had to be rescued from the sea off Gorey Castle this weekend - after going out in force seven winds and rough seas.
His kayak had overturned and his companion managed to get into shore to raise the alarm.
It was too rough for the fire service boat to launch from Gorey, so the crew went to Anne Port.
They spotted the man in the water, and were able to direct the lifeboat to him.
He was taken on board with his kayak and landed at Gorey.
Lifeboat manager Nigel Sweeney said it had been a very challenging rescue, but because the man had the right clothing and had stayed with his kayak, he stayed afloat and was easy to spot.
A fine start to Monday with spells of sunshine.
However, a passing light shower cannot be ruled out and winds will start to pick up towards midday.
It will become increasingly windy on Monday afternoon with cloud thickening to eventually give a few patches of rain.
Maximum temperature: 12C (54F).
