There are plans for more defibrillators in Guernsey.

There are 49 around the island already, in spots where experts say they could make the difference between life and death if someone suffers a cardiac arrest.

Planning permission is needed to install the units and plans have been submitted for Richmond Kiosk, the cadets centre at Oatlands and the Guernsey Yacht Club.

Gerry Le Roy, from the Cardiac Action Group, says there is always a need for more.

There could be an end to rewarding Jersey's States workers with money when they make mistakes.

Last year 126 health workers were wrongly given pay rises that were later taken away.

States Members raised concerns there has been no action against the civil servants who agreed the salary increases.

In the States it was suggested two of the staff have since been promoted and one left with a deal called a compromise agreement.

Constable Richard Buchanan, for the board which rules on Jersey's civil servants pay, agreed the public is losing faith with the States because people are compensated for failure.

Guernsey's general manager of ports says they're doing everything they can to increase passenger numbers through the port and airport.

17,000 fewer passenger movements were recorded last year at island's airport and harbour than the year before.

Colin Le Ray says he is confident things will improve.

Last year saw 17,000 fewer passenger movements than the year before through the island's airport and harbours.

Guernsey Airport has seen falling numbers since at least 2014, but the rate of decline reduced in 2018. A total of 808,616 passengers travelled, compared to 813,595 in 2017.

Guernsey Harbours saw 4% fewer commercial sea passengers in 2018 with 307,997, compared to 320,255 in 2017.

Passenger numbers for all ports totalled 1,116,613 in 2018; compared to 1,133,850 in 2017; a reduction of 17,237 passengers or -1.5%.

The Guernsey College of Further Education has been running apprenticeships in the Bailiwick for 70 years.

It says the first apprenticeship scheme was approved by the States in 1949, and since then, schemes have been introduced in more than 15 different professional areas, including engineering, hairdressing and horticulture.

The college is looking for 70 people who started their careers as an apprentice in the Bailiwick, to represent their alumni.

It is part of a year of celebration which has been planned, including a special event and exhibition.

Three more defibrillators could be added to Guernsey's network, if planning is approved.

The equipment could be installed at Richmond Kiosk, the Yacht Club and the John Ramplin Cadet Centre in Les Gigands.

There are currently 49 defibrillators around the island and two on Herm, external.
