An inquest into the death of a Jersey man in a car crash last year has recorded an open verdict.
Adrian Fowler was driving up La Pulente hill on the morning of 24 June last year when he crashed into a granite rockface on a hairpin bend
The officer in charge of the Police investigation told the inquest Mr Fowler was likely to have been travelling at about 70mph at the point of impact, and was conscious when he was first found by other motorists.
Witnesses described how they had tried to keep him alive while waiting for an ambulance but he died at the scene.
The inquest was also told Mr Fowler had a history of paranoid schizophrenia.
No traces of drugs or alcohol were found in his system and it was impossible to know the state of his mental health at the time.
Summing up Dr Martin Barrett ruled that Mr Fowler died of severe impact to the chest.

A body has been seen in the wreckage of the plane carrying missing footballer Emiliano Sala, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) says.
Recovery experts used an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to survey the area of the seabed where the plane was believed to be.

"The AAIB is now considering the next steps, in consultation with the families of the pilot and passenger, and the police."
