It's claimed the States of Jersey has "wasted hundreds of thousands of pounds of tax payers' money" in a legal battle with an eye specialist who was sacked before he'd started work in the island.
Consultant Amar Alwitry had resigned from his job in the UK and was a week away from starting in Jersey when he was dismissed.
The Royal Court heard colleagues said "this chap looks like trouble" and "this appointment will be a disaster" before he was sacked.
The sacking of Mr Alwitry was ruled unlawful and the court said he is entitled to seek damages of up to £8m.
In a statement through his lawyers, Mr Alwitry said the States Employment Board had "wasted hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayers' money" in legal action against him.
The board said it will be appealing the court's judgement.

There were 59 in 2018 - compared to 94 in 2017.

The MSG's report outlines the challenges it faces delivering secondary health care in Guernsey - with delays in orthopaedic surgery exceeding the eight-week target for the bulk of the year.
The patient satisfaction survey, which forms part of the annual report, shows that of the 610 patients who took part, 88% found the MSG's services "excellent" or "very good".
