    BBC Radio Jersey

A Jersey company has been fined £15,000 after admitting a health and safety breach that led to an employee falling down a cliff.

The Royal Court found Nunes Gardening and Maintenance failed to identify health and safety risks, which led to a gardener's life-changing injuries.

Ferdinando Assuncao fell 25m at Bonne Nuit last May, leaving him paralysed from the waist down.

The court heard Nunes did not give Mr Assuncao appropriate safety equipment to do his job.

He had to buy his own safety glasses and gloves to use a strimmer, and his employer did not give him ropes or a harness, the court heard.

An independent review is to be commissioned into the efficiency of Guernsey States-owned airline Aurigny.

The president of the Scrutiny Management Committee, Chris Green, said it would be taking a joint approach with the board which has political oversight of the airline.

He said "jointly with the State's Training Supervisory Board, we're going to be commissioning an independent review which will look at the financial and practical operational efficiency of Aurigny as a company."

Last October the airline was forecast to have accumulative losses rising to £12.3m.

Jersey Reds will look to bounce back from last week's Championship Cup quarter-final loss to Cornish Pirates as they host London Scottish at St Peter in the league.

Director of rugby Harvey Biljon has made eight changes to his starting line-up with flanker Conor Joyce returning after four months out with injury.

Joyce is one of five new faces in the pack with Harry Morley, Nick Selway and Sam Rodman forming a new front row and Kyle Hatherell coming in at number eight.

Scrum-half Liam Howley will get his first start since moving to the island from New Zealand last month with George Eastwell coming in at centre and Jack Stapley getting a chance on the wing.

"If you look at our record against Scottish over the last couple of years it's been very good," Biljon told BBC Radio Jersey.

"Last year we beat them four times on the bounce, this year they beat us early on but we put in two very convincing performances through the cup competition.

"What we've got to make sure of is we've seen a bit of a revival in Scottish's form and the way they've been playing of late and the most important thing for us to do is focus on ourselves."

Twenty-five new homes are to be built in Jersey.

The Planning Committee has approved two separate applications for housing developments. One is in St Helier and the other in St Brelade.

Developer Dandara has been given the go-ahead to build 16 two-bedroom flats and a seven-bedroom home on Tower Road in St Helier.

The company has been hoping to develop the site, overlooking St Aubin's Bay, for more than a year. An initial application to build 20 flats was rejected last year following concerns over its height and scale.

The committee also agreed that two 1950s bungalows could be demolished in St Brelade and replaced with eight new family homes.

The two, three and four-bedroom properties will be built on La Route des Genets.
