The largest solar PV array in Jersey, installed on the roofs at La Collette Power Station, is now live and generating power.

The array is expected to generate enough to power 12 average homes every year, Jersey Electricity (JE) said.

It's four times the size of the one JE installed as a trial in 2013.

JE's CEO, Chris Ambler said the solar project "will diversify energy sources to include local renewables".

"Although introducing local solar will not result in further carbon reductions, solar PV sits comfortably alongside our existing imported decarbonised power," he said.

Including self-catering and guest accommodation, there are about 5,000 beds.

The Admiral Park project will see Comprop once again injecting significant private sector money into the economy - which will mean jobs for local residents, expansion opportunities for island businesses, and a significant boost for the tourism industry. It also presents the first new construction of large scale offices for a number of years which will give added flexibility to the office market.

A Jersey man who's both deaf and blind is calling for taxes on technology for islanders with disabilities to be removed.

Wheelchairs are currently exempt from the island's standard 5% Goods and Services Tax, but Peter Le Feuvre wants that to extend to technology that helps disabled people live independently.

He said he can avoid the additional cost when ordering equipment through the hospital or a charity, but not if he buys it himself.

A Premier Inn hotel is being built in Guernsey.

The budget chain has planning permission for a 100-bed hotel as part of a £35m development at Admiral Park by Comprop.

Work to demolish Sydney Vane House is due to begin in the next few weeks, with the development expected to be completed by December 2021.

As well as the hotel, the development includes "state of the art" office space, a restaurant, and a 384-space multi-storey car park.

Comprop, which also built the Waitrose and B&Q buildings on the same site, said that this latest project uses two-thirds of the remaining land on the Admiral Park site.

Local company JW Rihoy has been given the building contract.
