The hot weather is causing a delay in repairing Jersey's paddling pool in Millbrook Park.

The States said it was aware the pool was missed and added it was working with contractors to finish it quickly.

Officers said they could not repair the pool surface if it was too hot or too wet.

Work has also been previously stopped due to strong winds blowing debris into the pool.

There are disappointments with a new policy letter impacting Guernsey teachers, but also many to be supportive of, says the acting general secretary of NASUWT, theteacher’s union, external.

Chris Keates has commented on the publication of the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture’s policy letter on Transforming Education, external.

She said the undertaking that the process will not result in compulsory redundancies is “particularly welcome” and also that consultation will continue.

However, Ms Keates said the NASUWT is disappointed with the “lack of details in key areas” including around staffing models and structures of the colleges.

The union is also disappointed the policy letter was released with only two weeks left of the school term as the school holidays "impact severely" on its ability to "meaningfully consult with members".

Guernsey Police are looking into the death of a 53-year-old man who was found on the cliffs at Icart Point on the morning of Saturday 6 July.

The man, who was not a resident of the island, was last seen in St Martin at 23:40 on Friday and inquiries are ongoing into the exact circumstances of his death.

Police have declined to publicly identify the man while they ensure his relatives have been informed.

Jersey police have dealt with more than 8,000 reports of missing people over the past 12 years.

Figures revealed in a Freedom of Information request, external said some people may have gone missing several times, but nearly every one of the people was found.

There were two exceptions, including one woman who came to the island in May 1959. Her bag, was found without a passport at the harbour in St Helier.

The other was a woman tourist who disappeared in January 1980 after, it is thought, she went swimming.

A female car passenger taken to hospital after a a road crash in Trinity has been released after a check-up, police say.

The 67-year-old was injured in a collision between a grey Toyota car and white flat-bed truck at about 09:00 on Trinity Hill.

Two other people also involved in the crash, a 70-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, are not believed to have been hurt.

The road has reopened and police said, external traffic was moving freely.

A draft of Guernsey's first ever anti-discrimination legislation is being hailed as "powerful and effective" by a local disability campaigner.

A draft for the island's own Discrimination Legislation has been released, external by the Employment and Social Security Committee. The 195-page report looks at how the strategy will work and what it will include.

Rob Harnish, from the Guernsey Disability Alliance, said it was extensive but also accessible.

The proposed legislation will say employers and service providers must not discriminate against someone on the basis of the characteristics (referred to "grounds of protection" or "protected grounds"):

• Age
• Carer status (people who provide care or support for a dependent child or disabled person over 18)
• Disability
• Marital status
• Pregnancy or maternity status
• Race
• Religious belief
• Sex
• Sexual orientation
• Trans status

The Employment and Social Security Committee said it was now seeking "the community's views on the draft proposals" in a consultation which is open until Monday 30 September, external.

A 67-year-old female car passenger has been taken to hospital following a road crash in Trinity.

The collision, between a grey Toyota car and white flat-bed truck, happened at about 09:00 near Oaklands Lodge, on Trinity Hill.

Emergency services said the woman's injuries were thought to be caused from an airbag and were not thought to be serious.

Two other people, a 70-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, are not believed to have been hurt.

The road has reopened.

A convicted paedophile, who preyed on two alcoholic mothers with young children, has been jailed for nine years in Jersey.

Robert George Carrel, 63, was found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl 30 years ago in a trial in the Royal Court.

The court heard how he had groomed the mother of the girl before abusing the youngster in his flat and also at her own home when her mother was drunk.

He later bought the child sweets and toys after abusing her.

He had a previous conviction for sexually assaulting a young girl in the UK.

The Royal Court also put Carrel on the Sex Offenders Register for 15 years.
