The Minister for Infrastructure has agreed a 3.4% increase in taxi and cab tariffs.

Deputy Kevin Lewis reviews taxi and cab tariffs each year with reference to the Retail Price Index - which is calculated independently by Statistics Jersey to reflect the costs of commercial motoring.

Once the increase comes into effect, the new tariffs will be:

• Tariff One - Monday to Saturday, 07:00 - 23:00: £3.06 plus 23p for every 10th of a mile
• Tariff Two - Monday to Saturday, 23:00 - 07:00, all day Sunday and public holidays: £3.16 plus 33p for every 10th of a mile
• Tariff Three - Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, 19:00 - 07:00 and from 19:00 on New Year’s Eve until 07:00 on 2 January: £5.42 plus 36p for every 10th of a mile

The changes mean that a standard daytime journey from a St Helier rank to the airport will typically rise from £13.13 to about £13.64.

A dog walker assaulted another dog walker when a row broke out between the two men.

Police said the men "became embroiled in a heated verbal argument" over controlling their dogs in the parkland area of Pont Marquet Country Park, St Brelade on Friday.

One of the men, aged 49, was taken to hospital with injuries to his face.

Police said a 40-year-old man was arrested in the evening for grave and criminal assault.

People are being warned to expect traffic delays on Don Road, Jersey, due to the sudden collapse of a large wall.

Jersey Fire and Rescue said the road is currently restricted to a single carriageway.

Islanders are being warned of the dangers of lighting fires on beaches after a four-year-old girl "severely" burnt her foot.

Georgia Tyson was walking on Grandes Rocques beach with her Dad when she stepped on the remnants of a beach fire.

She was taken to hospital and it was several days before she was able to walk again, the States of Guernsey said.

It added that Georgia had stepped on some "smouldering embers" that hadn't been extinguished properly.

The States’ senior environment services officer, Jan Dockerill said beach fires can cause "very serious injury".

"If not put out properly they can cause severe burns to people and animals," she said.

"This week we will be putting up more signage highlighting our beach code, which provides good advice on a number of issues including beach fires, as well as litter, wildlife and noise."

There are calls for an independent environment regulator to be set up in Jersey, after an investigation into potential pollution at the Elizabeth Marina.

Civil servants responsible for regulating Jersey's environment sit within the same department as the minister, but there are concerns that could result in a conflict of interest.

Constable Mike Jackson - head of the environment scrutiny panel - and Deputy Kirsten Morel want to follow the system in the UK where regulators are part of an arm's length organisation.

Deputy Kirsten Morel thinks there will be questions about the impartiality of the investigation into possible pollution at Elizabeth Marina as it has been carried out in house.

The silver Sark Medal was recorded as being stolen from a museum in Guernsey in 1970.

Elderly people living on a St Helier housing estate might need to be moved out of their homes after a burst water pipe caused water to cascade down the communal stairway.

Fire crews were called to the Plaisant Court development in Val Plaisant when the burst pipe caused the fire alarms to go off.

The power had to be switched off and the lifts are not working.

A spokesperson from Andium Homes - which owns the estate - said there was a "significant" amount of water which mainly affected the communal area and stairs.

They added there will be a review later to see if any elderly residents might need to be moved out while the stairway is tidied up.

It could take until Christmas before all of Jersey's outstanding tax returns are processed.

Revenue Jersey is moving to a new computer system so islanders will be able to file their returns online in the future.

But the office needs to run a number of one-off tasks as part of the set up, which has resulted in at least a two-month delay.

It's asking people to not repeat their inquiries with the help desk as it could slow the process down even more.

A 31-year-old man is missing from his home in Jersey and police are concerned for his welfare.

Piotr Matera, who is Polish, is missing from St Saviour.

He is described as about 6.3ft (1.95m) tall, of slim build with dark hair and blue eyes.

He was last seen wearing blue trainers, grey shorts and a grey jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 612 612.

Tuesday should be a warm day with just a light to south to south-westerly breeze.

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has expressed frustration that pay talks with the Guernsey States remain unresolved.

It says pay should be increased by more than 10% to close the pay gap between nurses and civil servants.

The RCN said a deadline for pay talks to be concluded has passed, demonstrating a lack of desire to continue with negotiations by the government.

The Policy and Resources Committee - which is negotiating for the States - said the talks involved four separate unions representing health care workers, three of which were consulting with members on the current offer.
