Originally, the subsidy cost taxpayers £825,000, although there has been no information provided on whether Guernsey would continue to pay a subsidy after the extension.

The announcement has been met positively by Economic Development Committee President Charles Parkinson, who said the route had helped develop Guernsey's strategic air links.

It will be massive. It will be, on average, an extra three officers per shift. I know that sounds like a small amount, but that allow us to continue to up-skill our staff and continue professional development as well, and to increase the training in this world that is ever developing."

Guernsey Ports, which owns the airport, said Alderney has special status from UK authorities, and they're unaware of any intention to change the historic arrangement.

The UK Department for Transport has yet to release specific detailed advice, and Deputy Joe Mooney says it needs to be considered now.

    Quote Message

We just don't know where this is going. When I started flying you just turned up and got a flight. Now it's a minimum of an hour. Hopefully common sense prevails but we just don't know.

  17. Work on sea wall delayed until 2021published at 08:22 British Summer Time 2 September 2019

    BBC Radio Guernsey

Any work to remove part of the east end of L'Ancresse wall in Guernsey has been delayed until at least 2021.

The project, voted through in the States in 2017, has encountered delays in carrying out the environmental impact assessment.

Energy and Projects Officer Peter Barnes said that while the delay is unfortunate, they will continue with their responsibility for people's safety.

Those in favour of removing the wall - built during World War Two - said the cracks that have formed are dangerous, and that a natural shingle bank would form in its place.

Others, such as the gold club behind, fear the headland could be lost without the concrete structure to protect it.
