    A senior Jersey police officer says more people are coming forward to report domestic abuse.

    There's been an increase of nearly 40% in the number of domestic assaults from 2017 to last year.

    Acting Chief Inspector Mark Hafey says the number of reports has risen since the definition of domestic abuse was broadened.

    Passport fees are set to increase for the first time in ten years, the Jersey Customs and Immigration Services has announced., external

    A standard adult passport will go from ​£72.50 to £85 and a standard child passport will increase to £58.50 from £46.

    The Minister for Home Affairs, Constable Len Norman said the increases will ensure "Jersey's service fees align with other Crown Dependencies and the UK".

    It will also result in passport applicants contributing to the increasing costs of passport services, Constable Norman added.

    The increase to passports and non-EEA work permits fees will be effective from 1 October.

    The Jersey version of a British passport is issued by the Jersey Passport Office and offers customers identical services to that of any other British passport holder.

    Just over a fifth of mopeds and motorbikes tested under Jersey's new MoT-style system failed their first inspection.

    Figures released as part of a Freedom of Information request show that, since April, 435 vehicles have been tested.

    Ninety two were issued with a defect or refusal notice.

    The tests were introduced as part of the island's Brexit preparations.

    Sark's first blue plaque will be unveiled later, honouring the writer Mervyn Peake who lived and worked on the island.

    Peake wrote some of his most critically acclaimed works in Sark, including the Gormenghast books.

    He first went to Sark in 1932 after plans to set up a colony of artists called the Sark Group.

    They set up a purpose-built modernist gallery on the island where Peake lived and worked in his studio.

    He later returned to Sark with his family after the war and lived on the island for five years, when he produced some of his best work.

    The blue plaque will be unveiled by the Seigneur Christopher Beaumont, external and will be the ninth in the Guernsey Bailiwick.

    A gas price hike, due to go ahead on Sunday, is out of the company's control according to the managing director of Guernsey Gas.

    The increase is higher than the rate of inflation.

    Ian Plenderleith says the cost of importing gas to the island has been the main reason behind the price hike, which will add about £35 to average annual bills.

    Some backbench politicians want Jersey's government to explain how it's going to save 100 million pounds by 2023.

    More information about the planned cuts is expected to be published in October.

    But some politicians are concerned they won't have enough time to properly review the plans, as they're due to vote on them on the following month.

    Deputy Kirsten Morel is now calling for full details to be announced at least four weeks before the States debate.
