At this time of political uncertainty it is particularly important to strengthen our relationships with the Commonwealth and Commonwealth jurisdictions who have a lot to offer one another. 4. Licensing laws plan for Sark self-generation electricitypublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    Rory O'Reilly
    BBC Radio Guernsey

Islanders in Sark who generate their own electricity may have to follow new licensing laws if politicians agree to plans at their next meeting.

The Policy and Finance Committee is bringing the proposals before Chief Pleas at the start of October.

The committee says self-generation may be attractive to some, but it isn't a feasible option for many islanders and could lead to increased prices for any main supplier to the public.

It says the licensing system already in force in Guernsey could be used as a basis which could be developed for the specific needs of Sark.

    BBC Radio Jersey

People in Jersey could be able to take illegal or unknown drugs to the health department for testing if a politician's scheme is approved.

Deputy Montfort Tadier questioned the Home Affairs Minister about the possibility of introducing such a scheme in the States this week.

He thinks people should be able to surrender drugs to be tested, without worrying about any legal repercussions.

The minister, Constable Len Norman, says he's happy to have a conversation about how to reduce harm from these types of drugs.

It comes after batches of unusually strong drugs were recently linked to five people being hospitalised in Jersey.

  12. No further sanctions for Jersey politicianpublished at 09:19 British Summer Time 16 September 2019

    BBC Radio Jersey

A Jersey politician will not face any further sanctions, after it was found that he breached the States code of conduct.

Deputy Montfort Tadier referred himself to the Standards Commissioner, after sending an email in which he called for a Jersey doctor to be sacked.

As a result, he was suspended from his role as Assistant Minister for Culture from the end of March until late May.

In his report, the commissioner Paul Kernaghan says Deputy Tadier clearly breached the code of conduct, and did not raise his concerns about the employee in the correct manner.

He says he invited the Deputy to have a face to face meeting to discuss the case, but he did not respond.

Mr Kernaghan says he is satisfied it was not Deputy Tadier's intention to undermine any law and he has apologised to the doctor in question.
