    It's extremely rare for females to carry out mass shootings in the US.

    According to the most recent FBI data, men were involved in 98% of all active shooter incidents in 2021. Of 250 active shooting incidents from 2000 to 2018, nine involved women, an FBI investigation found.

  2. Police chief says there are no other victims

    Aside from six deceased victims and the shooter, there are no other gunshot victims, police said.

    They added that police engaged with the shooter in the upper level part of the school, in a "lobby-type area".

    Police said they will provide another update to media later today.

    Seven people, including three children, are dead after this morning's shooting, Nashville police spokesman Don Aaron has confirmed.

    The total includes three children, three adults, and the shooter, who died after engaging with police.

    A school shooting has been reported in Nashville, Tennessee. This is what we know so far:

    • Three children have been killed in a shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, according to local authorities
    • Police have also reported "multiple injuries"
    • The school is a private Christian school with 200 students from preschool age to the sixth grade, around 11 or 12 years old
    • Officials have not confirmed the ages of the victims
    • Police said they engaged the shooter and that the shooter is now dead
    • First responders had set up a reunification area nearby the school for kids and their families
    • Along with local authorities, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has said it is participating in the investigation
