We have some more details on what just happened in court.

A juror said they were unwell as they headed to court this morning. And Alina Habba, one of Donald Trump's lawyers, said she has a fever.

Habba told the court her parents have Covid, and she had dinner with them three days ago. She tested negative this morning, but said she felt unwell.

Trump was sitting next to Habba in court while these discussions were unfolding.

With court called off for the day, we will wrap up this live coverage of Donald Trump's defamation trial.

Court is set to resume at 09:30 ET Tuesday.

However, Donald Trump has a rally in New Hampshire tonight, ahead of the state's primary on Tuesday.

He is campaigning to win the Republican presidential nomination, and New Hampshire is the second state to vote after Trump's big win in Iowa last week.

    Breaking

Court proceedings have been called off for today because of a sick juror.

Both Donald Trump and E Jean Carroll were in attendance when the judge announced the delay.

  3. Will Trump testify?published at 15:01 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

That's the big question today. And the answer is, we don't know yet.

He's previously indicated he would testify in this civil defamation trial, but we've had no confirmation from the court or his legal team if that will happen.

E Jean Carroll's legal team are still presenting their case, but if they finish today then Donald Trump may take the stand as part of his defence.

The judge has warned that if Trump does take the stand, he will not be allowed to say Carroll made up allegations that he sexually assaulted her.

That's because a different jury in a case last year already found that Trump sexually abused Carroll.

People have been arriving at court in New York for today's proceedings.

Pictures show E Jean Carroll heading into the court and Donald Trump's presidential motorcade making its way through the city.

Small groups of protesters have been spotted outside court and also outside Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan.

  5. Carroll seeks $10m in damagespublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January

Trump has already been found to have made defamatory comments - the jury now needs to decide how much money he must pay Carroll.

Carroll is seeking $10m (£7.7m) - which is more than she asked for in her last defamation case against Trump. A jury ordered Trump pay her $5m in damages in that case.

She wants more money this time because she argues his comments as a sitting president hurt her more.

Shawn Crowley, one of Carroll's attorneys, said last week the jury would need to consider "how much money Donald Trump should have to pay for what he's done" - and "how much money will it take to make him stop".

Former US president Donald Trump is heading to court again today - his third court appearance in the past two weeks.

There are a series of legal issues unfolding against Trump throughout 2024, and today it is his civil defamation case.

Fashion writer E Jean Carroll is suing Trump for defamatory comments he made in 2019 while he was president, when he denied her allegations of sexual abuse.

A jury in a previous civil trial found Trump did sexually abuse Carroll in the 1990s and ordered he pay her $5m in damages.

A judge has already ruled that Trump is liable for defamation over the comments he made while president - but this jury will now focus on how much money he will pay in damages for those comments.

Trump has just been filmed leaving his penthouse apartment in Midtown's Trump Tower. And E Jean Carroll has arrived at the courthouse.

We don't yet know if Trump will testify.

My colleagues Madeline Halpert and Chloe Kim are at court and we’ll bring you updates as they happen.
