Butler says he doesn't care what's written about him in tabloids

Gerard Butler has been describing how hard it is to fight off the paparazzi while working with Jennifer Aniston.

The pair are currently working together on new movie The Bounty in New York.

The 39-year-old was in London for the UK premiere of his latest film Ugly Truth.

He told Newsbeat about the many paps who follow Aniston every day during filming.

"They get in the shot sometimes and we can't film - there's a hundred people waiting for a guy hiding in a roof to disappear," he said.

'Doing their job'

"They put you off when you're filming because they're right in front of you, they get in your eyeline.

"I guess they're just trying to do their job as well but it's not a job I'd ever want to do."

But when it comes to the tabloids, the Scotsman doesn't seem that concerned about what they write.

He said: "I don't care. I'd probably rather they didn't make up the stuff they do, it's ridiculous but I don't ever see them any more.

"I don't think I've picked up one of those papers in five years."

Butler certainly seemed to be popular with the female crowd on the red carpet, with intermittent screams accompanying his every move.

'I lap it up'

"I never thought as a six-year-old I could make that noise with a turn of a head," he said.

"It's amazing, I really appreciate it, I lap it up. In between premieres it's not something I seek. I love to live my own life and do my thing.

"But you come here and it's the time when you realise, 'Oh, what I do affects people'. They appreciate it and you can't ever turn up your nose at that."

And one person who seems equally impressed with Gerard Butler is his Ugly Truth co-star Katherine Heigl.

She said: "Gerry's such a great guy. I think he's kind of got everything.

"He's super sexy and charming, women love him but men love him too because he's super accessible and he's got that guy's guy thing going for him."

As for taming the leading man, Heigl thinks it's possible, but admits that he seems to be having fun for now.

She said: "I believe any man who truly falls in love is tameable but I think Gerry is having a good time and God love him for it."

Ugly Truth is out in UK cinemas on 7 August
