Toyota is recalling another four models across Europe, Japan and America.

They've found problems with brakes in the Prius and three other hybrid makes.

Almost half a million cars worldwide will be affected, eight-and-a-half thousand of them in the UK.

The cars affected this time are its newest Prius as well as the plug-in Prius, Sai sedan and Lexus HS250h.

The recall is the latest in a series that has seen eight million cars being ordered back to the dealers for checks and repairs.

Toyota says it's received reports of problems with brakes on bumpy roads and in cold conditions.

It'll take around 40 minutes to change the software on recalled cars.

The firm's trying to reassure drivers it did not sacrifice its legendary safety record in its successful drive to be the world's largest car maker.

Company President Akio Toyoda told a news conference in Tokyo: "I apologize for causing trouble and worries for many customers over the quality and safety of Toyota."

He's now expected to fly to America where some Toyota drivers are starting legal action against the firm.

The software on Prius cars made since last month has already been changed to deal with the issue.

It affects the car's anti-lock braking system with drivers saying the failures mean that when you push on the pedal, there can be a slight delay.

That's as the car switches to the conventional hydraulic brake rather than the regenerative braking system used by hybrids to help recharge the battery powering the electric motor.
