Jack White says Jay-Z "is the best thing in hip hop"

The White Stripes singer and guitarist Jack White has described the rapper as the "best thing in hip hop" after the pair recorded material together.

Speaking to Radio 1's Zane Lowe White said: "We're in the middle of working on some things right now - I think it sounds incredible."

He added that the material the duo were working on wasn't complete yet and he wasn't sure when fans would be able to hear it.

"He's brilliant - there's just no doubt about it," White said. "He's the best thing going in hip hop and has been for years."

There's still no date for a release or any word on whether it will get an official release or not.

The White Stripes guru is a busy man as he also fronts The Raconteurs and is currently on tour with his other project Dead Weather, featuring Alison Mosshart on vocals.

He added: "I could of had five or six years of sitting round doing nothing, getting writers block or feeling uninspired, but there are new challenges happening for me everyday."

Dead Weather's Die by the Drop is Zane Lowe's Hottest Record in the World right now. It's taken from the album Sea of Cowards released on 11 May.
