Battling boarders: Tony Hawk v Shaun White
- Published
There's a battle of the dudes shaping-up.
Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk has launched the latest installment in his video game series Tony Hawk: Shred.
Meanwhile Olympic snowboarding champion Shaun White has been showing of his first skateboarding-themed game.
Tony has been the biggest name in the skateboard/gaming market (unless you count 1980s classic Skate or Die).
Shred
Shred is his 16th video game since Pro Skater came out in 1999.
Until now the two-time Olympic gold medalist White has stuck to the snow.
His first appearance was in Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder.
That was followed-up with his own title Shaun White Snowboarding.
Asked about making the switch to the skateboard White said the sport had always been a big part of his life.
He has been heavily involved in the game's production, doing voice-overs and motion capture.
Virtual board
Tony Hawk: Shred is the second game to make use of Activision's virtual skateboard.
The plug-in controller uses motion sensors to capture the player's movement.
Speaking to the BBC, Tony said the system may even help gamers learn real-world skating skills.
"I think it would help you with certain modes of balance.
"You would learn the logistics of skating... but it's not going to teach you how to be an amazing skater."
