Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross choose the World Cup over Wimbledon
A Wimbledon win by Andy Murray would go unnoticed because of World Cup fever, according to Russell Brand.
The comedian said if the Scot did take the title, only "the Murray family and tennis afficianados" would really care.
He was speaking at the annual pre-Wimbledon party at the Kensington Roof gardens in London.
Even tennis nut Jonathan Ross reckons "the World Cup is more exciting" than tennis' annual showpiece event, which gets underway on Monday (21 June).
Brand and Ross turned up at the bash together in Ross' classic Morgan car decked out in England flags.
Andy Murray, 23, is the fourth seed and plays Jan Hajek of the Czech Republic in the first round.
'Special place'
The party saw top tennis players including Serena and Venus Williams mingle with celebs including Ricky Whittle and Sugababes.
Also there was England rugby player Danny Cipriani, model Caprice and Welsh rugby star Gavin Henson, who recently split from Charlotte Church.
The dress code was glitz and glamour, with former Wimbledon winner Maria Sharapova stealing the show in a bronze sequinned dress.

The former Wimbledon winner towered over everyone at the party in her eight-inch heals, adding to her already impressive 6ft 2in (1.88m) frame.
The guests were fuelled with a non-stop supply of expensive cocktails and canapés and the music was pumped out at ear-splitting levels.
The world number one Serena Williams said she was delighted to be back in London and couldn't wait for Wimbledon to start.
The defending champion admitted it was "such a special place", describing it as her favourite tournament in the world.
She also reckoned Andy Murray had a great chance to do well over the next couple of weeks, saying "he's such a good player, so much talent. Definitely one to watch in the draw".
Those thoughts were echoed by older sister Venus, who said "it would be awesome if he won it".
