Stereophonics, The Who and Kasabian are amongst the bands getting behind a charity single released in aid of drummer Stuart Cable.

The campaign, started by Cable's partner Rachel Jones and his most recent band Killing For Company, will release a download track from 25 July.

The song, Former Mining Town, is taken from his band's unreleased new album Lost Art Of Deception.

Kelly Jones from Stereophonics said: "Stuart was our lifelong friend and brother. He will be forever missed. Let's give him and his boys a final shout out."

Rhys Ifans, Manic Street Preachers, Oasis, Kasabian and Feeder have also backed the release and stated their support.

Comedian Rob Brydon said: "It's a wonderful way to help these charities and to remember and pay tribute to a truly lovely and much missed man."

Proceeds from the single will go towards the ex-Stereophonics drummer's favourite charities The Teenage Cancer Trust and Ty Hafan Children's Hospice.

Cable, aged 40, was found dead at his home in Llwydcoed on 7 June.
