Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg as he appears in the Simpsons

Mark Zuckerberg has joined the likes of Coldplay and Simon Cowell by appearing on The Simpsons.

The founder and CEO of Facebook had a cameo which was broadcast during Sunday night's episode in America.

It comes a week after he announced a £63m donation to schools in the US during an interview on the Oprah Winfrey show.

It's seen by many as the latest PR move by the 26-year-old ahead of the release of the film, The Social Network.

Directed by David Fincher and starring Jesse Eisenberg, it tells the story of how Zuckerberg started Facebook from his university bedroom at Harvard six years ago.

According to critics the film portrays Zuckerberg as a socially awkward geek who betrays his best friend.

Disowned

Zuckerberg himself has labelled the movie a work of fiction.

Based on a book called The Accidental Billionaires, he disowned it during filming and had nothing to do with how it was made.

Despite that it opened in America over the weekend at the top of the box office, taking £14.5m in its first three days.

It's released in the UK on Friday 15 October.

In his minute-long Simpsons cameo characters Lisa Simpson and Nelson Muntz bump into Zuckerberg at an entrepreneurial exhibition.

Lisa asks him to explain how staying on in higher education helped him succeed with him admitting that he dropped out of Harvard University.

Nelson approves saying, "Better earnin' than learnin'!"

"Hell yeah!" Zuckerberg replies. "I'll get the best kind of degree - honorary, baby."

This Simpsons episode will be shown on Thursday 14 October, 7.30pm, Sky 1 HD and Sky 1.
