X Factor: Katie and Cher on Gamu and tabloids

  • Published

X Factor contenders Katie Waissel and Cher Lloyd have told Newsbeat they've banned themselves from reading the tabloids.

They've been in the papers every day after they made it through to the final 12, despite struggling with their final auditions.

Many fans have been angry that Gamu, who sang perfectly, didn't go through.

But Katie and Cher say they're not letting it get to them.

They said: "The thing that we've stuck to, our little rule, is we don't bother to read the papers or anything like that.

"Because this is a singing competition and we're here to do one thing and we're gonna rock it on Saturday."

As for Gamu missing out, they're pretty tight-lipped about the whole debate about whether the right people went through.

Cher only says: "What has been done has been done."

There had been rumours that Gamu could return as a wild card but when asked who they think should come back the girls can't decide saying "everyone is fantastic".

Too fragile

Much has been made of Cher's slight figure and there have been claims that she is too fragile to cope with the competition.

"Fragile my mmmm," says Cher, while Katie chips in: "We've got Nandos on speed dial we're all just having fun."

Cher struggled with her audition because she was ill but she's now back to full strength.

She said: "I'm back for business, I'm being well looked after, I'm very grateful."

Katie added: "We've been making her lots of hot drinks, chicken soups and making sure she's all right."

Katie struggled to finish her last audition and broke down in tears but says she's excited about Saturday night's first live show.

"I know the pressure's on," she admitted. "This is why I've been really hard at working, being super focused and making sure it's the best show I can possibly give. Just positive thinking, positive thinking."

And she's hoping to prove her doubters wrong: " I can't wait to just get out there on stage and perform and show people this is what we can do."

X Factor is on ITV1 on Saturday 9 October at 7.40pm.
