Kings of Leon announce extra Hyde Park gig

Kings of Leon's Come Around is the fastest selling album of the year

Kings of Leon have announced an extra date at London's Hyde Park after the first one sold out in minutes.

Tickets for their 2011 shows in London, Coventry, Sunderland, Manchester and Edinburgh went on sale this morning (3 November).

Due to "unprecedented demand" another date has gone on sale for London's Hyde Park on 23 June.

The band announced their tour dates last week a day after they played a special intimate gig for Radio 1.

Fewer than 100 people watched at The Rivoli Ballroom in south-east London on Wednesday night (27 October).

The band kicked off the hour-long set with their current single Radioactive.

Singer Caleb Followill, who appeared to be suffering from jet-lag, told the crowd: "You don't always get a chance to play a venue like this, so thank you. We're having fun."

New material

They played material from their four album back catalogue and seven new tracks from their latest album Come Around Sundown.

Despite the album being released less than two weeks ago on 18 October, fans sang along to their favourite tracks both new and old.

Introducing the new track Pick Up Truck, Followill said: "Never done this one live before".

Use Somebody and Black Thumbnail were the final songs, respectively.

Followill ended the night by throwing the band's drum sticks and guitar picks into the crowd.

They landed in the hands of very happy 23-year-olds Amanda and Jessica.

"Over the moon. Awesome, best gig ever. The best band in the whole world," they told Newsbeat.
